I just received my new EDC pen. I told William Ake at Mazurka pens what I wanted and he produced a work of art. The body was turned from malachite TruStone and was then coated with clear lacquer for protection. The fittings are coated with titanium nitride in black and gold. It has a very smooth twist mechanism and takes standard G2 cartridges. I filled it with a medium green Visconti Gel ballpoint. The pen feels great in the hand. It is on the thick side and heavy, but well balanced. I can't think of anything I would change.
I never expected to end up with a custom pen, but my wife let me order one as a Christmas present. I was also surprised at how reasonable the price was. For not much more than the price of a Parker Sonnet I was able to have the pen I wanted made for me. And Mazurka Pens are not making any compromises. The work, the materials, and the mechanism are all excellent. (That is the most precise twist mechanism I have ever used.) You should take a look at the Mazurka Pens website. There is a lot of amazing work in a wide range of styles and materials. Now that I've seen mine I am thinking that I need to get my wife, who is crazy about purple, one of the thinner designs in charoite or mixed purple acrylics. --Bob Q
That is simply gorgeous! I would have gone with the fountain pen and if possible, actual malachite, one of my favorite stones. But man, I love it just as it is!
I love fountain pens and Mazurka does some very nice ones, but for actual EDC carry I prefer a ballpoint. They don't require as much upkeep to remain reliable. Thank you all for the kind words.
