LM Wave: Found Unadvertised Feature

I just noticed it today. Since I've discovered paracord and the art of lanyard-ship I've had a small lanyard tied to the small poke-out lanyard ring on my LM Wave. I've noticed that when I fiddle with it, it has a sharp-ish part that sticks out that allows it to seat into the handle when retracted.

So I had an idea, tested it, and discovered that the sharp part on the lanyard ring works great as a box opener. It doesn't cut the cardboard (obviously) but the little sharp part is perfect for puncturing the tape and following through with the rest of the lanyard ring. And I don't even have to open it up to use it. Just grab it and use it.

I like it, but I cant carry with that thing out, and it is a pain to open up. :(

I've always carried it in my pocket on the pocket clip. I've recently put the lanyard on the lanyard ring so it's easier to grab. Okay, fine. And because it looks cool.

I definitely agree that its a pain to extend. I have to take out the screwdriver bit and use that to push the lanyard ring out of the handle. If you don't have a lanyard to keep it extended, I guess this "feature" wouldn't be very useful. On the other hand its a good excuse to put on a lanyard. :D

I'll see. I carry mine in the sheath, so we will see.

I actually took mine out because I like the clip on the PE knife side? I know what kind of blade by the feel of the tool instead of visual.

Plus, I can use both the clipped in ring and the pocket clip at the same time.

Apparently that feature is on the Charge TTi to

If you had a Skinth that would solve that problem :)

There should be notches on the spine of the serrated blade.

Yes but I find them not as pronounced. It's more a habit, my other knives have a similar set up.

Why don't you just... use your knife?

    :D

Just kidding, interesting find. I will try it next time I get a package.

    It's about a half-second quicker. Every half-second counts in the world of box-opening. :p

I didn't know that piece was even there.

    I will experiment!

Cool find! I wonder how many Wave owners even know that lanyard loop is there?

Ooooooh, I hate that clipped-in ring. At least on my Wave and Charge Ti, it falls out every time I release the lock on that side. No way I can trust it.

I know, I could probably put a bend in it to make it fit a bit more snug, but it's just easier to use the built-in one. I put a tiny #6 split ring on mine, so it can stay 90% retracted until I need it, then I clip a wrist lanyard to the split ring. Works for me!

Once upon a time I told KAMM, but I had forgotten this thread title. Couldn't believe I knew it, being a Victorinox man, and she didn't. Its hidden in there pretty good:)

    Great idea!

Well, I no longer use this feature as my edc method has evolved, thanks to you bunch of enablers. I now carry my Leatherman in the nylon sheath with a Navy CUI pry tool in the small velcro pocket. I just grab the pry tool now.

I'm glad some of you guys are getting some use out of it. :)

Just to clarify, I don't leave a lanyard on mine, I find it just gets in the way. But since I'm a clumsy oaf, I keep a lanyard in my EDC bag, and use it anytime I need my multitool (or flashlight, or whatever) up a ladder, over water or anywhere I wouldn't want to drop it.
