Howdy, what's a secure yet non-bulky way to carry small quantities of lubricants, oils, and solvents? I'm thinking stuff like CorrosionX or WD40 which worms its way out of most containers.

I often wish I had such things with me for lubricating squeaky parts, protecting tools against rust, etc., but I don't want to or need to carry an ounce or even half an ounce for the small tasks I regularly encounter (plus I wouldn't have to room anyway).

The goals are a tight seal and low overhead (weight, physical size, etc.).

One idea: do drinking straws work in impulse sealing machines like FoodSavers? I could then carry just a few drops at a time, and make new packets relatively easily. I don't want to end up with a burnt and melted mess in our FoodSaver though, and some of these liquids are flammable to begin with.

    Thanks!

The last few motorcycle helmets I've purchased come with a little tiny plastic bottle of silicone to put on the visor hinge, vent switches and visor gasket... perhaps something like that would fit the bill? Dunno where you could purchase them commercially... I suppose you could buy a helmet and get one for free but that might not be the most financially practical solution :p If you contact Arai I'm sure they can send you some.

Looks like this. Not more than 1/2" in width. Might be too small though... I can't imagine it holds more than about 1/8 - 1/4 an ounce?

Here are some dropper bottles that are just 6ml (0.2 oz, 1+ tsp): http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005IQRKD6/ I could probably even go smaller, and lose the dropper tip for yet more space savings. I'll keep on looking, and am somewhat suspicious of their ability to contain penetrating oils, but they're certainly worth a shot.

Oiler pens are great, but I haven't found any easily-refillable ones: those ones on Ebay claim to be just that. Neat!

    Thanks for the ideas, folks.

Some test samples of perfume come in small and handy sprai bottles. You could empty one of those and refill them with your oil.

I've gotten some micro centrifuge tubes off of ebay for small amounts of liquids. Some have a screw cap, some have a push on cap.

There is a seller on eBay (see note below) that sells 3mL dropper bottles. They are popular for use with eCig fluid. Sizewise, they are about the size of a AAA battery, probably a little shorter.

I find them ideal for oils, but I doubt they would hold solvents like WD-40 very well. You could definitely carry silicone lubricant in these vials.

I have the perfect little vials for this. I carry dish soap, lighter fluid and lubricant oil in mine. PM me your address and I'll send you a handful. I'd post a pic, but...until there's a 79 hour remedial training on it...it ain't happenin'.

Thanks again, everyone. Lots of good ideas here! I'll try some out to see what has the tightest seal.

@rickboone, thanks for the offer! PM sent.

    1. Precision Oiler.... several companies make a flavor of it.
    2. Repurpose a Zippo Auxilary Fuel Cannister. Double O-ring seals to prevent leakage.

I used to carry a WD-40 Pen. I need to buy another one since it came in handy so much I used it up.

Either eye dropper containers, or, even smaller, and just as practical: Breath Drop containers. get a couple, maybe 3 at the pharmacy for $1

    B'rer Sam nails it again!

My FMTH! bag has one of these in it....filled with Kano Kroil ("the oil that creeps")....for almost 2 years now.And if THAT stuff don't seep out....
    No drippage.
My truck bag has one in it, with Marine Tuf Glide in it.....for the same 2 yrs.
    No drippage.
    Two, in my hunting bag....Mobil One 0W40 synthetic....prob'ly 3 seasons....no drippage.
Kerosene, in the other one....for thawing locks on gates or deerstands....no drippage....since deer season 2011.

    About $10, shipped, on eBay.

Frankly, I got tired of FAIL! et I wouldn't clean another oily mess outta my bags for $10.....so these have paid off for me.

Another converted fan: my younger B'rer Bill.
He had some gun oil in a lil' plastic "solvent safe" dropper bottle, last season.
    Ruined a $200 camera.
