CS and OC sprays : which brands ?

    Hi,

I am on the market to buy some peper sprays. I would like to know which are the best brands, and the brands to avoid ? I know only of Sabre Red which is said to be of high quality, any other suggestions ?

Sabre and Fox Labs are supposedly the best. Some people like CS's foam stuff.

Sabre and Fox Labs are very good...I have use Defensive Technologies also. Try to get something that shoots a cone spray.

First we would have to know the general environment that you are in. If you are outside then a spray works best due to windage. Inside a foam works best because it doesn't contaminate the area nearly as much. Sabre and Fox are good, but look at how long the expiration date is. That is what I would base my decision on. I've had cans that would go bad before their expiration and just wouldn't spray at all.

A short off the top of my head, Cone Vs, Stream Vs, Foam Pro/Con list...

    Cone pro's:
    -easy to aim.
    -wide dispersal pattern
    -good at shorter distances

    Cone Con's:
-reduced range due to wide dispersal pattern
-wind may blow spray in users direction
-increased chance of spraying others when in crowded area
    -increased contamination area

    Stream Pro's:
    -increased range
    -better wind resistance
-less chance of spraying others when in crowded area
    -decreased contamination area

    Stream Con's:
    -requires more aiming
    -small dispersal pattern
-reduced ease of use on up close targets

    Foam Pro's:
-possible better in windy environments over cone style
    -decreased contamination area

    Foam Con's:
-Perp might throw foam @ you
-reduced range due to dispersal pattern over Stream style

If you can get it, Vexor is the hottest stuff I have ever used. 15 million SHU. You could almost start fires with it.

I would also like to throw out there that Kimber is making some very nice sprays as well, granted they are spendy ($35-$68 IIRC) but they are very effective and easy to deploy.

I like top cop or fox mean green (stains perps)

Surefire already stated this, but foam can be blocked, caught, and used against you fairly easily. Conversely you can also spray it in your hand and rake eyes.

I prefer cone and recommend spending extra money on the practice kit so you can gauge.

I am a big fan of Spitfire. Easy to deploy and you can get both practice cartridges and refills for it.
