    That annoying Leatherman Surge "rattle"

    Hello there fellow Leathermen!

After spending the morning doing chores with my Charge TTi not quite up to the task, I'm thinking that it's time to upgrade to something more substantial. The Surge has the combination of tools which I like the best (that big ol' scissors is what does it for me), and years ago when I owned one, I loved the Surge's heavy-duty toughness.

However, something that always bugged me, even though it didn't detract from the tool's overall usefullness, was the rattle it made when closed. That darn rattle...

So, my question to you, stout EDC'ers is: has that noisy problem been eliminated in the newer productions of the Surge? And if so, where can one purchase said newer tools on the Interwebs, avoiding older stock.

    Thanks guys and gals!

Wasn't that caused by the lanyard attachment? I've seen it mentioned in some videos. Mine never rattled. put a lanyard on it to scilence it was the recomendation.

Mine rattles, and I also don't like how the pliers will get caught on the inside tools when you're closing it.

My 2008 sample is quiet. I don't know what the Leatherfolks did, but it seems to have worked. Maybe earlier Surges can be modified.

I had always thought that it was some sort of looseness in the tool itself that made it rattle; when you shook it, it felt loose- unlike my Charge TTi, which is completely solid.

Not to get off track, but I've experienced the pliers getting stuck on the inner tools with other models of multitools besides the Surge. It just seems to be part of the deal when you cram that many things into a small space.

But if they're fixed and quiet now, maybe I'll investigate getting another one. Thanks everybody for the info!

Mine doesn't rattle. It is actually bit stiffer than most of my multitools.
