    First Aid/CPR Party Ideas?

I'm working on putting together a First Aid/CPR party for my family, friends and neighbors. The idea being that I can't be around at all times for my family and/or I may be the person who needs the assistance so these are the people I will be depending on to fill in for me. So in my mind what better way to make sure everyone has some basic level of potentially life saving skills than to oversee their training myself... albeit in a fun, relaxed, low pressure environment among friends.

Of course it won't all be serious stuff... It's a party after all, but serious stuff will be covered as appropriate. With that in mind, I'm lucky enough to have friends who are experienced certified First Aid/CPR trainers who are willing to teach a modified class for me. Additionally, I plan to have lots of party favors such as basic first aid kits and cpr masks. What I'm looking for from you guys are some ideas to incorporate into the party plus party favor suggestions or even additional considerations which you think I may not have factored in.

All thoughts and ideas are welcomed and appreciated. Thank You in advance,
    RS

    Sounds like you'll need alcohol.

    ...just kidding! I'll take a sapphire/seven, please.

I wonder if you could find cheap info cards with CPR directions on it, as a door gift. That way people could have instructions on CPR as they are learning and could carry with them afterwards. I'd bet they could be found online somewhere.
Something like this but laminated to go into a wallet. http://www.cprdude.com/cpr-card.shtml.
Here is a better one that you can order as an actual card. This one looks a lot better even. http://safety-identification-product...tion-card.html.

With out a doubt, there will be plenty. I just plan to front load the important info and then do the demos and hands on training with the Israeli Battle Dressing after everyone is nice and toasted. That should be interesting.

Schwagster, great suggestion and definitely a keeper. Thanks

I tried to post this last night but had problems posting... so lets try it again.

You can use gloves as balloons.

Thermometers as drink stirs, just make sure NOT to use the rectal thermometers.

You can use 4X4 gauze pads as drink coasters.

Search the web and you can find bottles that look like IV bottles for your booze.

Search the web for jello mold in the shape of anatomical shapes... I have a brain jello mold that I use at Halloween every year. I also put a fake watch in the jello as it's setting and then ask everyone if they have seen my watch... I know there are heart molds also, I just never got one.

Search the web for Halloween Party Foods and you will find some interesting recipes. I found one for a cool punch (non alcoholic) its green sherbet ice cream with mountain dew, then throw in some gummy worms or other gummy things (eyeballs) and it looks like toxic waste... its tastes pretty good too

Almost every party store will carry the rotating blue or red lights, like you would find on top of a cop car or ambulance

Get some caution tape and use them as streamers. If you are mischievous like me, you can use the tape to section off the door to the restroom and see how long your guests wait before breaking the tape to use the restroom.

Halloween is right around the corner, see if any of the Halloween stores have any items you can use.

Use large band-aids as name tags.

I used to have a pen that looked like syringes, fun to write with. I am sure the Halloween store will have them... also check out Anatomical Chart Company or Bucky's Boneyard. Anatomical chart company has some great gift ideas and Bucky's Boneyard has some really interesting How-To's for haunting your house...

Well that's all I got for now...

    I hope this helps
Thanks So Much and Keep Your Pockets Full

This might work for you after you're done with instruction: One thing that we did with a local disaster response group recently was have a "Disaster Dinner." We served military MREs and their civilian counterparts (all of which were near expiration). We explained to them that if the Big One hit they'd be eating these for awhile.

The dinner was held in a large room. After people were seated we cut the lights off. The only lighting you could use was what you had on your person ... interesting test on EDC (nope, we did not tip them off in advance). Fortunately, I had a few hand crank lanterns, one for each table.

Perhaps something like our "dinner" would be a good way to feed your group. By the way, we're not total savages, so we had ice cream for dessert and turned the lights on, too.

I've got to add that I like sklnxbones ideas for food, too.

sklnxbones that's awesome. I've already got a lot of the molds and other items that you mentioned from Halloween parties past but hadn't thought to use them for my first aid party so those ideas are perfect. Thanks a lot.

and Saitta, you just took care of the bulk of my menu planning. Love the dinner by flashlight idea. It will be interesting to see who has what on them as a part of their EDC. Truthfully, I'm afraid I will be the only one in the room with a flashlight on them, but we'll see. Thank you for the ideas.

It actually sounds like a fun party, especially if it's done in a not so serious manner. Sklnxbones had some great ideas, too. In my mind when it was first mentioned I pictured a Neighborhood Watch sort of block thing where it's overly serious and a guy standing at the front with a clipboard reading a medical transcript in the most boring way possible.

    Hope it goes well.

are you a certified first aid/cpr instructor?

if you're going to teach first aid I think you need to be qualified.
