    Moleskine: What's the attraction?

So, what is the attraction to Moleskine notebooks? Is it a craftsmanship thing or a functionality thing? I understand that these notebooks and journals have a very basic yet sophisticated look about them. I don't see the difference between these and other cheaper notepads that can be stashed in an EDC bag, pocket, or the like. So EDCers, what made you go Moleskine? FYI, I caved and purchased a squared notebook based on the peer pressure on EDCF.

For me, its everything you said above AND the Moleskine looks like its not for school kids. I pretty much avoid anything I used in college or high school being a young professional and try to appear older and more responsible than my young peers when I can.

It has others things going on too. The paper is pretty nice when compared to competitive products (composition books), ect.). The cover looks classier and I love the back pocket.

I could go on, but basically it boils down to I don't mind paying more for something I believe is really only marginally better because I like the Aesthetics.

I like the paper and the seam stitching. The paper is really quite nice and prevents bleedthrough. The seam allows the books to be laid flat and stay open, handy when I am in front of an impatient judge wanting to know every available date between now and kingdom come. The leather cover, the ribbon bookmark, elastic band, and the pocket in the back are nice too. I also like the size of the small ones, perfect for a suit pocket.

It is like the difference between the monkey brain and the human brain--it is the small things, in combination, that make all of the difference.

They're nicer than the rest and they will last. Lots of different sizes, configs, paper types. There's one to fit most any need.

I like the "Reporter" style Moleskine. Agree that the paper is nice, and it's a nice match for my Bullet pen. I believe a cheap Mead would probably serve you as well for most purposes, but the Moleskine is much better quality.

I try to conserve paper by writing small and utilizing as much of the page as possible. I use my notebook for everyday lists, work notes, and personal and church notes. I've been using the current one since January. It's now about 3/4 of the way full. I believe I only paid $9 for the last one. Currently they are running more like $12. I mostly pocket carry in cargo pants, and as long as I don't put anything else in that pocket except for the pen, it holds up very well.

I tried one just to see what all the hype was and I have to say I want MORE!!! Paper is uber-thick and the quality of the binding is top notch. I carry about 4 note pads on a daily basis for work but I keep my Moleskine for my own personal business. They are rather pricey, but this is definety a case of "get what you pay for"

Every notepad I've ever carried has either fallen apart or had it's rings flatten in my back pocket.

Picked up a three pack of their notepads at Barnes & Noble awhile back. These things are durable as Hell!

    Worth every penny.

I've got a lot of them, there just great notebooks. The paper is a real high quality, the cover has a great feel to them, most notebooks don't have a stitched in bookmark. I could go on and on, but the company stands by there product as well. I had an issue with a notebook, the cover had bubbles, I sent an email and a photo and in two weeks by registered mail they gave me a new one with a note apologizing. Not bad, I say. It's understandle not wanting to pay $12 for 108 pieces of paper.

I like the smaller series, I forget what they're named, as well as the soft covers particularly. I think I have 12...

They are great notepads but they are pricey and not The Best (nor The Only) in the market.

But it's very hard to find a cheap alternative with the same quality.
