    Anti-gun+Pro-knife?

I was just wondering if I was the only one on this forum that are anti-gun? In my personal opinion guns just gives you a false sense of security. Would you really get a chance to pull a gun on an assialant? Really? Wouldn't the safest option be to give them your money?
As English isn't my first language, something will probably get lost in translation, I would appreciate the discussion of this topic...

I will not talk about my personal opinion on guns in this thread, because it will probably kill any productive discussion.

However, "anti-gun + pro-knife" is a pretty common position among most people I know. A lot of folks don't like weapons but are willing to appreachiate knives for tools and value their utility use. I think this argument stands on its own merits. If you accept the premise "weapons in the hand of most people bad, tools mostly good", than it's only a consequent position, I guess.

Needles to say, I don't think this way. A good case can be made for it, though.

nope, bad idea. they are both tools and can save your life in the proper circumstances. I have personally used my sidearms to protect myself and others and go armed every day of my life!

In fact I don't think you can make any kind of generalizations about the types of people that frequent the EDC forum, or the other knife or EDC forums that are out there.

    MY OPINION

    Your English is pretty good...
Per your question I'm personally Anti-stupidity, & as with group there are some people who I'd rather not carry a gun (or anything else for that matter) due to their philosophy.

As for the giving money part. Not every assailant would follow that particular idea. Also there are situations where you would have ample time to prepare yourself for an attacker, so there's no definitively right answer because that's situationally dependent... Someone could try & break your front door in while your watching TV, & if you were carrying a gun (or any other weapon) you'd probably have ample time to pull it. A surprise carjacking on the other hand probably wouldn't leave time to even think, & then you'd probably be looking into the end of a most unfriendly weapon.

In this modern urban world I generally don't see a gun being nearly as useful on a daily basis. An edged tool can be used in a plethora of mundane ways on a daily basis, but a gun to me can only really serve in limited ways. Cops, Security guards, & etc have roles that I feel should have a gun. Now I'm not saying Mr./Ms. Responsibly Citizen can't carry, but that I can understand why there are people against guns while also pro-edged tools. People should be able to carry (within reason) a gun/knife/other tools if they wish to do so.

false sense of security... That can be true of any person regardless of their carry status.

A knife is a tool because it is one foremost. But saying a gun is a tool is really stretching it, it's as much a tool as a howitzer is one.

It's a tool in the sense that it is an instrument can be implemented in a way that saves your life. I don't completely agree with the idea, but I understand people who consider it a tool, albeit one with a very specific purpose. Having a gun can give you more options or add another layer to a multi-tiered self defense system.

Well one can play word games, that's what spin doctors for, but the fact still is it's sole purpose is to kill to another live subject, which makes it a weapon.

(I'm not anti gun so don't bother get righteous on me)
