Does anyone EDC a Dummy Wallet?

I responded to another thread tonight about hidden pockets in clothing and it reminded me of something I've been doing off and on for years. Carrying a Dummy Wallet. Basically an old wallet with some useless cards, a couple bucks and an old ID (with the id number blacked out) I carry it in my back pocket when I go out to walk My dog because there have been several muggings and robberies in my neighborhood and I don't take My CCW class until next month. I carry a micro thin wallet with my real ID and any money I feel I need to carry in a hard to find pocket depending on what I'm wearing. No one has been hurt in the local robberies or muggings and it's my hope that if I just hand them the wallet and my old cell phone (my new one is much thinner and easier to hide...I keep the old one in a phone holster on my belt where it's easy to see). That upon getting those items they'll just take off.
I actually walked right past three men who were hanging out on the corner passing a bottle...and a little over an hour later when I took my dog out, there were cops looking in the bushes with flashlights. I asked one if I should go back inside and he said no..they'd already arrested 3 men and were just looking for the woman's purse that they stole and ditched when they were being chased. Now it could be those men were just waiting for a specific target...but I also think My dog was a big factor in them leaving me alone. she's a 53lb English Shepherd and can look pretty menacing when she thinks there's a threat.

But I'd like to know if anyone else has used the 'Dummy Bait' tactic successfully? I haven't had mine stolen yet. and wondering if it will do any good once I have my CCW and am carrying? Not that I plan to let anyone get that close to me...but you never know right?

    Any thoughts?

I might use my keys as dummy bait... to distract and buy the time to draw.

The reason to use one is to keep that status from becoming something more serious.

I keep one in my car, just in case I'm going to an unfamiliar/uncomfortable area of the cities. I've had to use one once that helped me dodge a potential mugging from a drunk/high vagrant. Was out one night with my wife. We were approached by the "gentleman" who was asking for money. Told him sorry, no cash several times, and insisted on following us back to our car. My wife managed to make it to the car and lock herself in to call 911 while I distracted him and drew him away from our vehicle. I tossed the wallet across the street and he went running for it. I have my CCW, but that is an absolute last resort, and using the dummy wallet allowed me a safe escape and left it a non-letal incident.

Not realy a "dummy" but just my wallet with a couple empty visa gift cards and a couple of singles.I dont carry most of my cash and id in a wallet but insted I carry it in a kydex money clip I rigged up, this way if i'm going through a airport checkpoint I dont have to take out all of my cash and make my self a target.

I sometimes carry what is known by some as a "drop roll." It's the large wad of mostly $1 bills that you throw down if confronted.

You really dont have to make it look 'too' legit. A thief/mugger won't usually take much time to sort through it right there in front of you. Mine has an old expired drivers license that I scratched the ID number off of. But almost any pic ID would do if the old wallet has an ID window. Then I have a couple used up gift cards, an old Cosco card (I don't even live near a cosco anymore, and it was just one to get me into the store, not a credit card). an old library card and a grocery store shoppers card. Then I stick in a few movie ticket stubs, store coupons etc. to give the wallet a 'lived in' look and a few 1's and maybe a 5.
Like I said, they probably won't stand there and go through it. and it's really just a distraction to make them back off some so you can draw if you have a CCW and think the situation is that dire? or you can run. Most likely though they'll take the wallet and whatever else they can get quickly. watch, cell phone etc. and they'll take off.

DB thanks for sharing Your story. Yes, that's the Ideal situation for useing the Dummy Wallet. Everyone goes home alive and safe. Even the badguy. None of us really want to have to draw and fire if it can be avoided, so the Dummy wallet gave you another way out.

Probably not a bad idea if you were in a really high crime area and did a lot of walking at night. But not something that I'd do where I am.

For all intensive purposes my regular wallet is a dummy wallet. The credit cards are maxed and I never have more than a $10 bill in it
