About the Caran d'Ache/Fisher Space Pen compatibility, this is exact in theory, since Parker's cartridge are accepted, but not in reality.
In my 849, I had try to use the Fisher but it's too long by a very little lenght (may be 1/10th of millimeter), so it's very impractical. You can see on the picture the difference between the two cartridges :

I'd try to modify the adapter, but it's hard plastic, and brittle, so I ended with my two adapter broken, and my good old Goliath came back in the 849 body. I wasn't too happy with the writing of the Space Cartridge, and the action of the pen was very disapointing (an experience similar to driving a Lada after a Mercedes).
Since I didn't try this with another Caran d'Ache pen, maybe this is not a general issue.

I have found that the Fisher universal refill will fit in a Zebra telescoping pen. I also use the same refills in my Rotring 4-tip multi-pen (I don't remember the exact name for the Rotring).
nomaded: does that Fischer refill also fit the Zebra F-301 Compact? (is that a "telescoping pen" of the type you are talking about?). I've been wondering if there's a relatively short black fine or medium refill for the Compact?

The Fisher refill DOES NOT FIT the Zebra F-301 Compact...(which is not the telescoping version, but the capped version).
Not trying to argue, but does he mean the Fisher "Universal" refill as shown in "G" above? "A" is the standard Fisher pressurized refill, but "G" is also a pressurized Fisher...just much different form factor...
It's all so confusing...:(

Good point, JM...the Fisher Universal refill probably would fit the F-301 Compact (I really need to get me some of those for testing out), but the PR series (the one with the adapter) won't.
Ha! Get some of those what? Refills? Or PENS...Originally Posted by loWWorm

Tell me about it... :(. I'm seriously ill when it comes to wanting more pens. I type this as I stare at three F-301 Compact pens and two regular F-301 pens on my desk....at least they were cheap! Can't say that for the other stuff I like to drool over.Originally Posted by Jumpmaster
The Fisher universal doesn't fit the F-301 compact as the point is too large in diameter to fit through the hole. Drilling/enlarging the hole isn't an option as the Universal lacks any "stop" for a front spring which would be required to keep the cartridge from simply falling out the front if the pen were pointed downwards.Originally Posted by loWWorm
It does work with the Zebra telescopic, but is a tighter fit at the pocket clip end where it is retained by a friction fit from falling out. (Yeah, I just got back from Staples. Orifice Depot didn't carry the refils.)
