Beamshot - a picture of the beam of a flashlight, usually on a white wall, or outside
Bin Coding - a method of describing the specifications of an LED in a short and simple manor. The code consist of 4 parts: The flux rating, tint, Vf (forward voltage), and color. Sometimes the color code will be left off. Leaving just a 3 part code. e.g. TWOH; where T is flux rating, WO is tint, and H is Vf. The following charts are for Luxeon LEDs:

CCFL - Cold-Cathode Fluorescent
cd - candela - a measurement of light intensity
CFL - Compact Fluorescent
Clickie – button switch that “clicks” to activate the light
corona - the area of transition between a beam's central hotspot and the area of spill. The corona becomes more prominent as the reflector surface is made rougher or more heavily textured, and also as the distance of the light emitting surface from the reflector focal point increases.
CPF – CandlePower Forums
Cree - maker of high output LED's, competitor of Lumileds and Seoul Semiconductor, maker of the XRE LED
Direct Drive - (for LED lights) The LED is driven directly by the batteries, there is no circuit but usually only a resistor that limits the current going to the LED. The light output starts to decline almost immediately after it is turned on, similar to a normal incandecent light though it lasts for much longer. (See link for more detailed explanation)
DIY – do it yourself
fc - footcandle - The unit is defined as the amount of illumination the inside surface an imaginary 1-foot radius sphere would be receiving if there were a uniform point source of one candela in the exact center of the sphere. Alternatively, it can be defined as the illuminance on a 1-square foot surface of which there is a uniformly distributed flux of one lumen. This can be thought of as the amount of light that actually falls on a given surface. The foot-candle is equal to one lumen per square foot. (Wikipedia)

HA-III - Hard anodize type 3
HID - High-Intensity Discharge
HOLA - high output lamp assembly (SF P61, 91 Etc)
hotspot - The central and most intense portion of a flashlight beam. Intensity of a hotspot is governed by surface brightness of the light emitter, and the shape, depth, diameter, smoothness and reflective efficiency of the reflector surface. The more intense the hotspot, the greater the flashlight's throw.

Streamlight- flashlight (mfg)
Surefire - flashlight (mfg)
Throw - the ability of a flashlight to place light onto a distant defined area of surface, i.e how well the light is collimated. The throw of a light source of fixed power will be defined by the surface brightness of the light emitter, and the shape, diameter, depth, smoothness, and reflective efficiency of the reflector surface.

Knife locking mechanisms
Slipjoint: A knife with no locking mechanism; the blade is held in position either by friction or a small spring. To fold the knife, pressure is placed on the back (spine) of the blade (e.g., most SAKs).
Lockback: The knife has a sprung bar running across the back of the frame. When the blade is deployed, this bar presses on a flat area of the blade pivot, preventing closing. To close the blade, pressure is placed on the other end of the bar, raising it (e.g., buck 110).
Linerlock: A section of one of the liners of the knife is shaped so that when the knife is opened, it springs out into the frame, preventing the knife from closing. To close the knife, the liner must be pushed back to the side.
LAWKS and AutoLAWKS: A modification of the linerlock, where a separate device prevents the liner from being moved without the second lock being de-activated first. AutoLAWKS - a variant where the device engages automatically; conventional LAWKS - has to be engaged by the user.
Framelock: Similar to the linerlock; however, instead of a liner moving across, the frame of the knife has the cutout required; considered stronger as it usually uses more metal than a linerlock.
AXIS® Lock: "A patented Benchmade exclusive, 100-percent ambidextrous design; a small, hardened steel bar rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The bar extends to both sides of the knife, spanning the liners and positioned over the rear of the blade. It engages a ramped, tang portion of the knife blade when it is opened. Two omega style springs, one on each liner, give the locking bar its inertia to engage the knife tang, and as a result, the tang is wedged solidly between a sizable stop pin and the AXIS bar itself." Benchmade site - locking mechanisms
Ball Bearing Lock: "A compressive lock wedging a stainless steel ball bearing between a fixed anvil and the blade tang. The ball is also utilized to detent the blade into the closed position." Spyderco Glossary
