The question came up on the liner being full or skeletonized. Spyderco said we can pick. ;D

Skeletonized for sure. Especially if it doesn't cost any extra.

I've had knives in both styles, but I say full... Either way I'm hankering for my first piece of forum gear, & money permitting this will be that piece. Thanks Jon!!!

IMHO skeletonized does not weaken the knife significantly and it makes it a bit lighter and more comfortable to carry. So I vote skeletonized.

Skeletonized. It doesn't detract from the strength, but it takes a little weight off.

True, but it also traps more junk, & they make it harder clean... Besides doesn't the standard Mannix come with skeleton liners? We should also get the FFG as carrot mentioned.(if I'm remembering correctly)

Nothing a little bit of canned air can't take care of.
And, maybe we should see if Spyderco would do a convex edge... :winkwink:
I wish.

GITD makes it sounds cool enough on that basis alone to get one!

The standard 154CM Manix 2 comes with full liners. The less like the standard model our forum model is, the better, in my opinion.

Do we have a rough estimated price on this?
I thought their was a thread saying that the EDCFroum knife was a Delica???? Someone made a rendition of it.
The Manix 2 I saw online with a Saber grind was around $80-$90.
Hopefully it on't be a whole lot more than that.

The glow material is quite a bit more expensive than G-10. I will not have a price on these until next week.
The hope is this can get the forum current on it's debt. It has one that is very old.

Are the scales still fiberglass-based, or is it an entirely different material than G-10? Not that that will influence my purchase of the knife, I'm just curious. GITD scales are such a cool idea. I can easily foresee this knife becoming as sought after as the USN Endura. All I can say is, have Spyderco make a lot of them. ;D

It's GITD G10.

They actually changed the material. When finished it feels like Micarta. It is not going to crack as the stuff is fairly flexible and has acriylic in it.
They changed the material after I sent a sample to Spyderco. The said the new material was fantastic.

Unless there's gonna be a slippie version, I doubt many will sell over here :(

I'm sure you can make the locking surface more sloped to make it slippie like.

I'd prefer the skeletonized because it's a little lighter. Makes it more comfortable to carry.

Is the GITD material translucent? If you can see the liner through the material I'd rather have solid. Otherwise I'd shave out some of the weight and go skeletonized.

I keep finding this thread, it's been so long since I've been here, but the project continues, good to see this still happening. Can anyone post pics yet, I can't see youtube at work?
I remember back in the day when I did these concepts...

I prefer full liners. The extra weight often isn't that much of a disadvantage compared to the strength gained.

Any ETA on the progress of the knife? I am planning on getting a new piece of cutlery, so I am trying to hold out for this.

Well, if it's the same stuff BRKT uses (I don't know whether it is or not), it is very slightly translucent. But only very, very slightly. I don't think you'd see the liner through it unless you were holding it up to the sun or something like that.

It is the same stuff.
Here is the latest news from Kelly at spyderco.
She got a production sample a couple of days ago from the factory manager. They are reviewing the costing and she is working with the factory manager to find out the earliest possible time that it can be scheduled to get built.

Great news! It's pretty cool to see this starting to come together.
Jon, this is going to make you and the forum some money, correct?
It had better. You've done enough to earn, at least something for each of these ordered.
I'd rather this knife cost me $5-$10 more dollars than to know you're still struggling with/because of the forum. Especially after setting up something like this for us.
Regardless, I can't wait to add this bad-boy to my 'box of bad things.'
I've been going through 'retail' withdrawl; saving my pennies for when this is available.

It will, I just got to keep things going until these are ready. I assume these are months off but I will not know how many until I hear from Kelly. My plans for the revenue is to pay off any debt the forum has, get new store software and forum software as well as get some custom coding done for the forum, I would like to also use it to widen inventory.
There are some exciting things happening in forum software. The old vB team that build the vB three series have started their own company. I would like to use a chunk of this to provide edcforums with the best software possible for us. Right now it looks like IPB3 is the best there is on the market. They got a huge boost when vB released vB4. IB should have retained the old vBulletin team in my opinion. They used to have in the vB3 series what is said to be the best forum software ever.
It is going to be interesting to see how this plays out. IPB is improving their product at a very fast pace. The ex-vB employers are developing a really slick easy to use intuitive product. There are tons of forums running the vB3 series that own a copy of vB4 but refusing to go live with it.
I am pretty sure that this will give use the ability to improve the software and add a wider variety of inventory and that can give the forum a big boost for the users and to get us financially stable.
