Does anyone have any experience with carrying a Canemaster Cane through commercial airline security, positive or negative? Its my favorite support when my bum knee acts up. I want to find out if I can legitimately carry it on.

It should be no problem. It will be x-rayed, but they are very hesitant to question canes or walking sticks. PC, I guess.
I frequently carry a blackthorn walking stick. A much more formidable weapon than almost any pocket knife. I could reach out and touch someone three rows away in an airplane with minimal risk to others. An excellent weapon with the full blessing of the TSA.

Since you didn't mention which model of cane you have, if the unit has a blade in it, the xray will show it. This will thrill the TSA and you will not being making that flight. In fact, you won't e making any flights for some time...

No experience with that particular brand, but I do carry a white cane every time I fly. I wouldn't think it would be a problem as long is it clears X-ray (i.e. no blades, etc). It may, however, not be worth the added effort (and possible embarrassment?) if you have a choice.
From the TSA website:
Walkers, crutches, canes, and other devices that can fit through the X-ray machine must undergo X-ray screening (with exception of white collapsible canes)"
You'll probably have to ask one of the flight attendants to stow it somewhere or gate-check it, though, and you'll have to wait until they can get it for you when the flight is over. Which is why I carry a collapsible cane.

No blade, no metal tip, no "sharksteeth", nothing I can think of as illegal, only the wood tip of the crook is a little pointy.

I fly with a walking stick all the time.

Have flown several times with my Canemaster Regular model with no problem. They run it thru x-ray and hand it back.

I don't currently have a Canemaster cane, but I do want to eventually get one and I plan to.
But here's the thing: I don't need a cane or walking stick in my everyday life. My legs are completely healthy.
SO... is there anyone out there who goes on commercial flights with a Canemaster cane who, like me, walks just fine without support?
And if you do fly with a Canemaster, do you fake a limp or something so as to not raise suspicions or give TSA an excuse to say, "You don't need that, so can't fly with it?"
DO their regulations make allowing canes discretionary, or can anyone who wants to bring one, bring one?

I don't "need" a cane. Should anyone ask my answer would be"for a knee that gives me trouble sometimes". And I don't fake a limp. Last time I flew the TSA agent asked if I needed assistance to go thru the metal detector while my cane was being x-rayed.
Canes go mostly unnoticed by the public. As long as it does not have the "****** killer-skull crusher"logo on it you should be fine.

The Americans with Disabilities Act has pretty much put an end to that nonsense. Another good reason for a stout stick.

Americans With Disabilities Act forbids intrusive investigation. Many who need a cane do not limp as it is a balance issue for them. No security guard has the right to make medical determinations. Mention AWDA and see attitudes change. The phrase to use is: "What accomodation do you plan to make under the AWDA?"
If you're travelling to the UK remember that *intent* is the key to most of the offensive weapons laws here. If it's identified as something that's made (or adapted, or carried) as a weapon then you're likely to get into trouble, even if the article in question is a my-little-pony.

ANY item advertised as a weapon IS a weapon despite whatever other purpose you put it to. For God's sake, just buy a decent heavy hickory cane. My 600 gram hickory is a constant companion and friend and has more than once been welcome.

Any better option for a stout umbrella then the unbreakable one (http://www.real-self-defense.com/unbreakable-umbrella.html)?
