So I'm being sent on a TDY with the Air Force next week to Gloucester well Fairford RAF really. We should have a few days off for some sight seeing. Any high points I could hit close by? What forms of transport are there to get places fast ie trams, monorails etc?
Also, I'm familiar with the UK's knife laws. I plan on taking my Mini Ritter Grip in yellow with me for a small knife. Blade length is cool, the locking is not. But, if I carry deep in my pocket not exposed I feel OK about that. How would the locals feel though if I pulled it out in public, not waving it around mind you, but just to open a package or something?
Thanks in advance!

I think you'd have to be VERY unlucky to have a problem. When I use locking folders, I DO tend to open the knife with both hands rather than "flicking" or thumb-studding the blade open, though.
Crazy as it sounds, I feel sure that the yellow handle would help too (rather than tacticool black!)
Enjoy your stay.

Yeah kind of what I was feeling, I dont intend to draw any unwanted attention.
So what about sites to see??

Hi
Tourist bit first, the UK isnt a huge place, I would guess that Gloucester is only a couple of hours by train away from London which has lots of interesting things. Its not far from Bath or South Wales if you want some nice coast to explore.
What sort of things are you looking to do / see ? Historic ( very old - Stonehenge / old and pretty towns like Bath ) or Geographic ( nice coasts / mountains / moors ) or Artistic ( galleries / museums ) and how long will you have to see them ?
As for EDC, I very much doubt that you will have any issue unless you flash it about in public, and only then if someone gets funny about it will you get stopped. If so use the tourist card and I cant imagine any Bobby getting funny unless you wind him/her up. Although the press are harping on about knife crime everyday I think most of the UK population are pretty non plussed about it really.
Have fun

Hey thanks for the reply. I actually would like to see some of the old towns. I also wanted to visit Holland and Holland on harrow road in London. Always been a dream of mine.

The following links have some info.
Street map of the town.

A little info about things that happen around the town.

A useful map of the area around the town

Rail network map

Its going to take about 2 hours to get in to the centre of London via train ( much quicker than any other mode of transport ). You can get direct trains ( ie no stopping ) and you can see the timetables ( you want Gloucester to Paddington-London ) here http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ with information about the underground network ( maps etc ) here http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/standard-tube-map.pdf . Not sure on a train ticket price, but if your going early, it could be around 40 pounds ( buy it with a travel card so you can use the underground ( it saves a little money ))
If you have a whole day I would head into London, lots to see and do, London Eye http://www.londoneye.com/ is worth a go to see the place from above, then areas like Covent Garden, Oxford Street are typical tourist destinations, you can walk along the Thames and see the parliament, see St Pau's Cathedral, The Tate Modern on the Southbank of the Thames, so worth a look if your interested in Art.
If you have a half day or similar, stick to Gloucester and check out the older areas of the town, its not huge and the town centre is the area of most interest I would think.
Hope that helps a little more :-)
