I'm thinking about a week long trip to the Portland OR area in mid to late September. Any suggestions of what to see / do / shop while I'm there. The Farmer's Market and Powell's Book Store are on the list.

Take a drive out through the Columbia River Gorge - stop at Multnomah Falls and the Bonneville Dam.
Also, I'm told that Voodoo Donuts is a fun place to visit.

+1 Definitely a trip through the Columbia River Gorge! Also +1 to Multnomah Falls. It can be busy at times, but it's worth the stop even for a few minutes just to see the falls. There are other, less-visited falls in the area, too. You might want to check out the Vista House, a scenic overlook that's above the Gorge and has sweeping views. The drive from Portland to The Dalles is one of the more scenic parts of the Gorge (my opinion).
The Leatherman factory (and small store) is out by the PDX airport. They offer tours to folks but I think you would probably need to call ahead to check. The store is neat, pretty small, but they have just about everything Leatherman.
There is so much to do and see, your week will fly right by. Another great trip is driving over to the coast and spending a day or two.
