I am flying to boston from sacramento ca.
Not reallyl sure what the weather has been out there... but only wish to bring a carryon..
I don't want to deal with the hassles of checked bags..
Also does surgically implanted metal set off the detectors?
If so how do you handle it??

All you need to do is get a doctors note to show to the TSA, believe it or not, and tell the airlines ahead of time. So it gets printed on your bording pass as well. My dad has a knee implants and that s all he had to do, and you get to go through special security. Were after you go through the puffer and metal detector you get patted down. Its not that bad, it just takes a little bit longer to go through.

Problem is the orginal doc retired :( ... and present docs... getting them to do anything is like trying to herd cats..
I will tell friend to mention that when he orderes the tickets. Hopefully that will be enough

If thats the case you should be fine you'll just have to make sure you tell the TSA agents when you arrive.

I plan on it
Though i've yet to set em off *anywhere*
i have screws in my knee (ACL replacement).
-didn't set off any alarms (Syracuse, Boston, LAX, Heathrow UK)
-my doctors office -would not- give me a note. "we don't do that".

Boston, coool . Now all I have to worry about is anyother airports we'll be going through.

That doesn't surprise me in the least bit.

I have a titanium plate and screw in my right ankle. I haven't had any problems.

Just talked to my dad, about when he went through airport security. When we left Denver it didn't set the metal detector off, but when we came back from Alaska it set off the alarm and the metal detector wand. So at this point hearing that I think it depends on the airport and metal detector. My old man has a titanium knee implant.

For traveling or any other time, go to www.weather.gov and just type in the city & state or the zip code in the box near the upper left corner. That'll get you a 7 day forecast from NOAA. I do take anything more than maybe 72 hours ahead with a grain of salt since weather systems are so complicated (you know, "Don't like the weather here are now? Drive 5 miles or wait 5 minutes!") but it's a help. There are links to radar images both local and for regions of the US and you can pull up a loop of the past hour to see what systems are moving and in what direction. I use NOAA several times a day, every single day. Lots of good information and very easy to use, especially for weather novices.

Huh? They won't give you a note saying that they had done the procedure that they had done on you? Was this the doctor who did the surgery, or just your general practitioner?
If I could not get a doctor to give a note about something he had done, that'd be it for that doctor, and I'd let him know why I was leaving. I also wouldn't cop out and have my next doctor request my records; I'd go and collect them myself to be in-your-face about it.
So, what was the nature of your case? Which doctor refused?

McGizmo?
it was the orthopedist.
i could get my records if i wanted them, but their policy does not allow for notes for air travel. a general policy of the office that my doc practices out of, not his personally. and being the best sports doc around i won't let anyone else touch me, so changing offices isn't an option.
i didn't get into it, but apparently it's been an 'issue' for docs since 9/11.
