So last week while traveling through dallas, I noticed the TSA "officer" using a very small UV light to check ID's and passports. It was about half the size of a NovaTac EDC light. I tried to ask the guy or get a good look at it, but he was having no part of it or me. Has anyone ever seen anything like this, or know where one could find something similar? I have looked at the Inova X5 and the Arc UV light, but just prefer a smaller size.

You can get small (and very cheap!) UV lights from here: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3414 or http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.6050 or they have many others, too, just do a search for "UV".

You know, when you consider the bad press that the TSA "Agents" ("Agents", THATS a good one!!! :lolhammer:) get, it really wouldnt kill them to be a little more personable & approachable to the people that theyre supposed to be serving.

True, but find me a rent-a-cop that really was pleasant.

I know plenty of "rent-a-cops" that are very friendly and personable

It's glad to see everyone keeps their sense of humor in a jar on on Friday mornings.

It helps maintain freshness for the weekend, I'm told. ;D

possibly, but it seems some folks might need to blow the dust off the lid

I had a good experience with a TSA agent on one of my last flights.

I was standing in line with my quart bag of liquids like a good little boy with about 100 other people. She walked up and asked if she could borrow my liquids bag for a quick demo to others in line.

In the best straight face I could muster I said "It'll cost you a buck."

It completely caught her off guard. Then I smiled and handed it over.

When she handed it back a minute later she smiled and said thanks for making her laugh.....and that she didn't get that much from travelers.

Nice to hear that you dealt with one of the "human" ones.
Of course I understand that these folks are just doing their job & though we do moan about the TSA as though its this sort of faceless entity, I guess we should remember that like ANY organization there's good & bad people.

About Deal Extreme above - read their forums BEFORE ordering anything. They are a very -different- business.
Coast makes a very inexpensive LED Lenser in UV. Got mine at a Fry's Electronics. There's also a Quik-Lite one.

I don't fly all that much on commercial airlines, but when I have, I must say that I have never even once run into an unpleasant or difficult time with a TSA person. I know that there are legitimate stories out there about abuse by them, ignorant specimens, etc. but I have been fortunate that in my maybe two flights a year average since 2001 I have never been given any harder of a time than just their normal curiosity about what the weird EDC shapes in my bag are caused by. I've never been taken further out of the line than just to the table beyond the conveyor belt where they can open up a bag and look at its contents. And they were always very professional about that part of the procedure, too.

And I made sure to be wearing a t-shirt with a HUGE NRA LOGO, to boot. The young male agent actually engaged me in conversation about it and said that he needed to renew his own membership. He had been serving in the military in Iraq, according to him. I thanked him for his service and went on my way. I plan to fly again in September and I will again be wearing my NRA t-shirt. It's one of the most "American" things I think I can do when flying.
