Greetings all, Vadsoom's thread re: luggage pilfering and damage got me thinking about the solution to this problem. I've seen clear lid lockable boxes such as Otter boxes etc. that would be perfect. Put your stuff in, lock, then secure to the frame of your suitcase.

Well, I have thus far searched: Plano, Pelican, and Otter boxes. None of them have the size that I am looking for, which is approx 12" in length, less picky about width and depth. Plano has a couple of durn near perfect, just not long enough. Otter has some clear lid boxes, but not sure if lockable and not long enough. Pelican's site was a pain in the toucas to go through, doesn't seem to be anything there that meets my requirements.

So, what do you all think? Know of anything that fits these criteria? Clear lids, at least 12" interior length, lockable?

Thanks in advance,
Mongo

Walmart started selling clear blue waterproof boxes in their camping section, I don't know the maker. But they are about 3 times the height as an Otter Box 2000. They are completely transparent blue. I remember them being pretty cheap to, in comparison, might want to check one out? You could always return it in a few weeks if it doesn't suit your needs.
I don't remember if they had a way to lock them, though.

Well, gotta solution. I found a clear lid lockable case made by Plano over the weekend at Dick's. Tried to find something bigger but couldn't. So, I went and got it last night. It is the Plano specialty box model 1430. Their website is www.planomolding.com and the box can be found in the Hunting/ATV section under specialty boxes. This is exactly what I was looking for, but just not long enough to pack my EDC fixed blade. So, I rummaged through the safe last night and found and acceptable substitute or three. Now, I gotta find a small padlock or two to lock them with. I plan on locking with a padlock, then slipping the cable gun lock through the locked hasp of the lock and then securing to the frame of the suitcase. The contents will still be visible, but not EASILY taken. Is this method foolproof? Nah, but it will certainly slow down and/or eliminate the quick grab. This box can alledgedly be found at Cabela's, Gander Mt., and even Wal-Mart is listed as a Plano product vendor. Whether or not they have this one is a good question... I doubt it. I paid about $25 plus tax for it.

Hope this helps y'all!
