Just returned from a week in Paris. A few notes about EDC and international travel.
1. Airport Security-I put all questionable items in a ziplock bag and had no problems with security. Forget about any type of blades-they will be confiscated. Put my necker in my checked-in luggage.
2. EDC items used: 100 mph tape: as bandaids, to cover blisters, secure items, invaluable. I carry a 1" wide rolled up strip in my wallet.
3. Safety pins-secure clothing, pop blisters, and in a survival situation, can be used for fishing or to set snares.
4. T.H.E Wallet-fantastic. I could put two passports in it and it still fit in my backpocket. Also because of the bulk, no worries about pickpockets.
5. Medicine-Motrin (for muscle aches) and Extra Strength Tylenol (for headaches)
Some of the places we visited had metal detectors and x-ray machines. (The Louvre, Versaille Palace, etc...) Fellow EDCers, when you travel abroad, make sure you streamline and organize your carry. My wife stopped criticizing me for what I carry when other people unloaded all kinds of junk at every security check, jamming up the line and wasting everyone's time. I went with wallet, keychain, digital camera, and everything else in a small backpack, so we zipped through the security checks. I didn't carry my necker all of the time I was in Paris because of all of the metal detector checks. They will not let you carry it into most of the major exhibits, although i did wear it up the Eiffel Tower.
One last note: went to the Louvre an hour before opening and had the Mona Lisa to myself for about 15 minutes before the Disneyland size crowds rolled in-be sure to check it out if you get to Paris!
