Any one have any experience with the new Spec-Ops Better BDU "NS" Belt (http://www.specopsbrand.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=53#)?

This is a newer version of teh Better BDU belt with the alumimiun buckle. Tis one comes in 1.5 as wella s 1.75" width and the buckle is some non-magenetic material, ehence the airport friendly description.

I've got one and love it. We've got a review coming up in the next issue of EDC Magazine--I'm afraid I've been holding things up a bit as I have been absolutely buried in work.

It is tough. It doesn't roll, it's easy to adjust exactly, and it's very comfortable.

Hope that helps!

Scribs: Good to know EDC magazine is up and running I was wondering if that was still alive or not.

Stupid question: The detectors at airport detect only magnetic materials or any metals? If I'm loaded to the nose with titanium does the alarm buzz or not ?

About the belt knowing that is confortable is probably the most important thing. I might get one because the one I have now is an airport nightmare.

I'm not sure about the Spec-Ops belt. but I have the Wilderness Frequent Flyer™ in the 1" size. I've flown with it a number of times, and haven't had too much trouble. I have had some TSA folks make me take the belt off, and a few more give me funny looks when I don't beep wearing it through the metal detector.

I'll probably get the 1 1/2" size some time this year for every day wear.Wilderness Frequent Flyer (http://thewilderness.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=3_42_43&products_id=196)

I'd also like to know if the SpecOps buckle is metal or just anti-magnetic. I like their products, and I also like Wilderness stuff.

It does upset me, though, that I have to unsnap and remove my US Forest Service buckle to get through security! ;D

The single piece, high-tech polymer BATTLE BUCKLE™ (patent pending) is easy to adjust and is much quieter and stronger than "issue" belts. ;)

I have one and it is a decent light weight belt. I have two complaints - one is that the buckle area is quite thick when the belt is inserted and tends to pooch forward. The other issue is that I can not simply tug on the free end to tighten the belt, I have to feed the belt manually while holding the buckle in my other hand.

Thanks for all the good comments. I'm goign to give it a try.

BTW I do have a Wilderness Freq. flyer belt. I like it a lot but it's a bit bulky and the velcro overlay is a problem with some belt loops. i was loooking for something a bit flatter and easier to adjust.

I've flown with the Freq. Flyer belt several times with no problem, but I wear it under a shirt worn tails out.

I generally take my belt off before going thru airport metal detectors, but I STILL always seem to set the ruddy thing off!!
Last time I flew (Gawd! Doesnt it make your arms tired!! ;D) the detector was set off by the plastic-coated metal hooks on the lightweight hiking boots (Columbia or Hi-tech) that I usually wear these days!!
One rather grim-looking Spanish copper made me take my boots off & he gave them a VERY thorough examination!

I routinely take off my belt buckle and my shoes. There's a cute "Joy of Tech" cartoon that may herald the next step.

I ordered one, I'm trying to build a "kit" that will let me go through the detectors without taking anything off and without being asked about anything strange.
Shoes without metal eyelets and low profile looking, this belt, if something is metal then titanium, small el-cheapo edc tools, low profile flashlight, etc.

Procedure in the US requires removal of shoes and belt. I have to fly to Chicago on Monday, and this time will leave the TSA-friendly (http://edcforums.com/index.php?topic=6752.0) squirt S4 behind in deference to the folks behind me.

Absolutely love this belt. I have flown a few times with it so far without any problems. The problem I still feel like I have to carry my regular wilderness belt with me for when I'm out in the woods

I'm quite happy with mine, I added a zip tie to control the loose end of the belt since it is a little bigger than my waist size. I tied the zip around the belt so I can tuck the end under the ziptie loop and that's it.
A small hole in the buckle to attach something would have been very nice.

All MCS instructors wear the Wilderness Frequent Flyer Belt. They are the standard by which others are judged. Best belts I have ever worn.

I recently picked up a Bison Designs 30mm T-Lock Belt from REI because it had a plastic buckle made by Duraflex. Took a plane home the next day wearing the new belt and no one said anything at the TSA counter. Nothing on or with the belt said anything about mil specs but the belt is very well made and comes in a variety of colors and patterns.

When did that happen about the belt? When I flew in September, I didn't have to take the belt off. I had on the Wilderness flyier's belt on.

Metal detectors work by having a piece of metal induce a current in the sensor. Additionally, newer metal detectors have a sensitivity level which can be set. Aluminium isn't as likely to induce a current than a piece of iron for example. The short answer is, Al or Ti shouldn't set off a metal detector.
