Is it possible to show topics by most recently posted when looking at sub-forum topic indexes, but still read individual topics from oldest to newest?

After posting a message I get sent to that topic's sub-forum topic index. Can I instead change something so I go to my just-posted message after I post? I like to re-read after posting to check for errors.

After posting a message I get sent to that topic's sub-forum topic index. Can I instead change something so I go to my just-posted message after I post? Yes. Click on the "Profile" link on the EDCF toolbar (top of every screen), then click on the "Look and Layout Preferences" (left side of the screen), and finally check the box for "Return to topics after posting by default."

The "Show most recent posts at the top." option (it'll be on the same window I described above) lets you tweak thread sorting issues.

Thanks Greenie. I tried the "show most recent posts at the top" option and it seems to sort topics (when viewing a sub-forum index) AND posts (when viewing a topci). I only want topics sorted, but when reading a topic I want them to appear by date posted, ascending (old posts first).

FYI "Return to topics after posting by default" was the fix for my second question, so thanks for that!

I only want topics sorted, but when reading a topic I want them to appear by date posted, ascending (old posts first). I see. When you're looking at the list of topics, look for the little triangle right next to the "Last post" link. Click on that triangle and you'll change the sorting sequence. A combination of that and what I suggested earlier might work for what you're after. Let me know if that works; I've never tried it myself. :)

Oh, yeah. I am sorting the topic indexes by last post. I think I understand now what has been confusing me.

The topic lists are ordered by most recently posted topics, by default. Sometimes I just look for threads with the little "new" tag next to the topic, and I will find over time that when I don't read threads that don't interest me, some threads stay marked as having "new" posts even though the posts aren't new since my last visit. I could probably resolve that by using the "mark all threads read" or something like that. But I think I'm going to just live with it.
