View Full Version : TAD Gear Gen 1 Ti Dogtags
I recently bought these on here via Gadget Guy so I'd just like to say thanks a lot to him for buying them for me and shipping them to the UK, John, you rock O0
I've been after a set of these for ages, so I had to jump at the chance even though I couldn't really afford them (although I'm sure most of you know that feeling :P)
I never seen the description for the gen 1 Ti dogtags, but the Gen 2 (at least I think they're gen 2) state they're razor sharp, these certainly aren't, they're useless against paracord and only really of use on paper when it's placed on a cutting mat, I suspect they'll only really be of use for opening boxes etc and not much else, it could be sharpened, but I don't have the skills for it so I'll leave the edge the way it is.
To be honest I don't see these being of any use as a tool, but I do like them as a novelty/piece of jewellery and I'll be keeping them for such, at least until I can get a gen 2 or gen 3 (if they're ever released) version :)
Time for the fun bit...

David, no problem! :highfive: I wish more sellers here knew how easy it is to ship overseas. I use global priority mail and I have never had a single problem. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us, I was so tempted to open the package and take a peek. :-X ;D
I have never seen these before, are they still being made? Anyone have have comparisons of the different versions or other info?

They're not still being made, they were replaced by the Gen 2 dog tags (http://www.tadgear.com/edged%20tools/tad_gear_titanium_dog_tags.htm) which are now discontinued and there's supposed to be gen 3 dog tags coming out at some point which I'll probably end up getting :)
Pyro, were you mugged by customs or the UK side shipping company? I usually end up with a bill when stuff gets shipped by a company, and that bill is usually around the same amount as the item. I can basically only buy from EBay or from individuals because of this. Buying from companies that end up costing me is becoming a false economy. To be fair to them though, they need to ship to me with insurance and via registered means, etc. It's just that I can't buy from them without a decent saving...

I bought from an individual on here, but no I didn't have any problem with customs.
I buy from the US a lot, it probably averages out to at least 1 package a week from the US and there's only been a couple of times I've been hit by customs, if you're willing to take the risk of shipping without insurance then a lot of companies will lie about the value on the customs slips so you don't get taxed, even with the full value on the customs slips sometime's you're lucky enough to miss out on VAT and duty, but if you're using a well known company such as New Graham Knives the chances are you will get hit by VAT and duty.
