I'm guessing that's a timing issue? In the time it takes you to read some threads, new posts are submitted.

Did that answer your question?

'Show unread posts since last visit' really does mean your last visit. If you close the browser containing EDCF, those 'new posts' will not show up again for the next time you open a new browser for EDCF, as they are not new anymore.

Maybe I interpreted your question wrong, but there's probably a few interpretations of it...

When I log in after a few days and click "show unread posts since last visit", the aswer is "no unread topics found since last visit". So there is something wrong.

When you first logged in, did you select the "Keep me logged in forever" option? I think that most people do, since it makes it so that it won't ask for your password every time.

When you check for unread messages there will be a further option - "All Unread Messages" towards the bottom on the right, that's the option that will show you all of the messages. Of course, that can include TONS of messages, so I click the "Mark all read" option occasionally to weed out the ones that I'm not reading.

Or you can just bookmark this link:

http://edcforums.com/index.php?action=unread;all

with the ";all" there it will show all of the messages.

Hope that helps.

Since I joined this forum a couple of months ago, I've taken advantage of the "Show unread posts since last visit" option. In the past 3-4 days, whenever I choose that options, I get a message that says something like "No unread posts." When I used to check in a couple of times each day, I would see 2-4 screens worth of new messages. Now, even when I was out of town for 2 days, I don't see any. Is there any way to get this back? I don't recall changing anything.

Thanks!

What happens when you then click on "All Unread Topics"?

My only pet peeve with the feature is that the page count is often wrong. For example, this morning it showed there were 3 pages of posts to read, but when I went to page 2 the 3rd page disappeared.

I could swear this happens to me too. Up till now I have put it down to server connection problems. Sometimes I click the icon for EDCF in my favorites, which is linked directly to that page (show all unread posts). Sometimes my server doesn't connect properly and so I have to click it again- so maybe my unread posts have been lost by doing that. But that can't be happening like every day...

If it's happening to you too, then who knows... I thought I was going crazy!! :idiot2:

That's because as you read posts, the total number of "unread" posts decreases. So when you go from page 1 to page 2 it re-figures the posts to show you.

Either start in the back and work back to page 1 to see all of the posts, or refresh each page before going on to the next page (otherwise a few posts will slip into the unread slots of page 2 as you go to look at page 3)

I'll look into why this is...often the guilty party lies in your browser settings (have you cleaned your cache/cookies, is your browsing history reset) or your login/logout habits (do you login and logout)...it could be myriad things, and judging from the responses here, it seems to be a little random in terms of frequency and target.

And honestly, it could be the forum software...sometimes I get strange little glitches or messages (loWWorm, your oven posted PM to your hottt!).

I usually recommend a full logout, a reboot, clear your cache/cookies and let me know then if the problem persists.

Tried the full logout, reboot, clearing cookies and history/cache, and still the same problem. This used to work fine, but I had to reformat my home hard drive right before this option started acting up. I can't see any firewall/software issues, but that would be an obvious choice. But since others are also experiencing the same, I wonder. Thanks for any help that you can give. It was SO convenient to see just what I missed since my last session rather than look through all the unread posts.

I am now losing all my unready posts. Each time I click on the Read unread..., I get a page that is different from the last time if I've been away for any amount of time. I had four pages to go through, and when I clicked on it, I got a short one page...and when I click on all unread topics--nada. Rats. This just started for me, and I am logged in all the time...

Anyone had any luck getting their unread posts to show if they disappeared on you? When I come to the site (logged in forever) and click on "Show unread posts," it tells me there are none. Now I know that's not true. I tried fiddling with security settings, deleting cookies, logging out and back in on multiple computers, etc., and nothing. I DID have to reformat my hard drive right before this began happening, so it could be something at my end, although others report it as well. This has been happening for close to a month now, and I miss that option. Sure, it's easy to backtrack over unread posts and try to remember (or write down) when I last checked, but it's much easier to use the option.

Thanks, and I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

Yep, I'm still having the same problem as well. Now when I visit, I click on "Show unread posts" and then I add to the url ;all, reload, and then I just refresh that url all the time so I don't lose them.
