I'm having a hard time with the rule keeping people's items all in one post. I'm interested in seeing what people have up for sale/trade but when it's a 3-4 page post with recent changes (on unread posts), I probably won't go and check it again. However, they may well have entirely different things for sale now.
I totally agree that if someone has 2-3+ things for sale they should put them into a single post, but once those things are sold, can we let them open a new thread? Their new items will get much better exposure than if they're just lost in an old post.
If we're concerned by the number of posts in the B/S/T forum, lets get rid of some of the old ones instead. We have what? 34 pages of posts there now? Does anyone really go back and read that far?
Just my $0.02, but it would make browsing easier for me at least.
Thanks,

The idea on threads like that is to update the first post and perhaps the title with "new stuff added". It's not really the total number of posts but more the number of posts by the same person on the first page or two.
Having a bunch of posts by the same person decreases the spots available for everyone else to display their goods. Also if a person goes back and bumps their threads a lot you have bump wars for the few spots that are available. Imagine 3 or 4 people that sell pretty regularly posting 3-4 threads each and bumping them each time they drop to far down. If someone else just wants to sell one item they can't get any visibility.
Hope this makes sense.

That makes sense, but after they've changed the title of their thread to reflect their first change (FS - New Items Added) I might miss a second change. Plus there's now an existing "back and forth" (offers, counteroffers, "I'll take its", etc) that I have to wade through to find out if the new stuff for sale (at the beginning of the post) is still available.
I completely agree that they should only have 1-2 threads active at once, but why can't they start a new one once their old stuff has sold? It would make it way easier for me.

Well ideally the second, third, and forth changes would include the date in the title like we do when we update the BST Rules. e.g. Updated 10/21/06* That would be fairly clear to anyone looking.
As for starting new threads the only thing that precludes that is the "in just a few days" clause of the rules and a bit of common sense.* A number of people have successfully sold items then a number of days to a week later have opened a new thread with new items.* The difficulty comes in if they try to relist items that didn't sell in the previous thread which is technically still active.* Double listing items is not a good thing.*
If someone has sold items in 2 threads and immediately starts 2 more threads you still have 4 threads by the same person showing up in the most viewed part of the board and though 2 are finished they still give that person's items added visibility by limiting the slots available to others.
