About 35 years ago I bought an Orvin divers watch at Gemco. (Long gone dept store) It leaked in the shower as did the two warranty replacements in the first week or so! I "upgraded to a Waltham. (Also a diver's watch.) It leaked or stopped in short order. I had a few others, but quit wearing one 20+ years ago.

A year ago, I had to buy a new suit and travel to Europe on business. I chose a Wittnaur watch as a 15 years "service" award from my employer a few years back and dug it out. Of course the batt was dead and I found the band to be crappy. I went to a watch shop and had the batt replaced and bought a Spidel Romunda Twistoflex band plus a bunch of extra links for it to fit. (Like I always had to do 30 years ago.) The band was marked "China" and the gold plating (matched the watch) wore off inside 2 weeks!

I've worn it for the last year, but as I'm back to wearing one, it's upgrade time! I'm considering A Luminox 1553/4. I dont care for the 2" square big ones, and ain't looking to make a fashon statement. Hoping for some help recommendations. Digging through the "drawer" I found a Spidel Romunda black/silver, lengthened band in new condition from at least 20 years ago attached to the gutted case of a Winston plastic digital watch that was a freebie with a carton of cigs! It's marked Bulova USA on the back. Apart from dipilitating your wrist over time, I always liked those bands!

Edit: One outfit I checked has those models listed as "Ladies" watches! :green: Would I be be perceived as uh, nevermind! Just lookin to upgrade the watch to something I can read in the dark without whippin' out a flashlight!

I had two of the Luminox "Field" watches and they worked well for me.* The mineral glass will scratch, and mine did a little to easily.* I have had about 10 luminox watches and they have all performed very well.* Having moved into higher dollar auto watches I have comed to like saphire crystlas so much I doubt I could go back.* The watches are simple, the illumination can't be topped, and they are built pretty well.* Some, IMHO, are too expensive for quartz watches but they work well and maintain pretty good resell.* There used to be Luminoxs all over the knife/light/gun trade forums but I think people are hanging on to them now.* I have a Navy Seal that is at least 10 years old, still glows well, runs great.* Changed the batteries and had to glue down the rotating bezel, but it does what I need it to.

Edited to say: Microtec Mb makes all these watches for different brands. Luminox is just one of the those brands. Traser is one, Ball, and some are specialty watches branded for different companies. These off brand watches are exactly the same and sometimes can be had for much, much cheaper price than Luminox or Traser. Kimber firearms, Smith and Wesson, BMW, Mercedes all have watches they have branded. There is another one, I believe it is called LumiSport that is branded and I bought one for $40.

You won't go wrong with a Luminox. I never liked all the busy ness on the dial face. I'm told they have changed some of the faces now.
I really like the TRASER brand watch. If you go to Europe frequently these are available there.
Same tritium vials and brightrness. Just a different face.

Marathon military watches also are quite nice. CountyComm, ebay and many other places have em.
The Traser has a better crystal and doesn't scratch as easily as the Military Marathon.

YIKES, if you can pick up a good tritium watch for $40. That's a fine deal.

If you want a good diver's watch, I'd recommend a Marathon SAR, issued to the Canadian Search and Rescue teams. Waterproof to 300m, Swiss movement, built like a tank...

Luckily for you, I just happen to have mine on the market. Feel free to make me an offer! ;)

Today I bought a Luminox 3901. If the window- I mean crystal- :green: gets scratched-up, I'll have it replaced with a saph from Frei and Borel. The watch is polymer body which is lighter and won't be flying off my wrist when I have to bi&%h-slap some clown at work while wearing the Spidel Romunda, made in USA, band I found in "the drawer." ;D
