I've been wanting to try these for a long time but have been put off by the shipping rates, $6 for the $6.95 screwdrivers.* Does anyone have any experience with these?

I had one years ago, it was fairly limited due to the fact that the screw must be in the open to access it, works great in a pinch though.
If there is enough interest in them I ill pick some up and distribute them through regular mail, that should save a bunch on shipping..
I was in Lee Valley yesterday..

That might be a plan. I'd be interested.

It would be nice if there was a little philips nub at one end too.

Yup ;D Use'em actually a surprising amount. I've given a lot of them away as well - Lee Valley actually has a lot of neat stuff. I think it costs me an average of about $70 CDN every time I go "looking".

I have the original given away by Norton Abrasives. Actually, I collect them! Can you buy several sets for the same $6.95? If so, I would like two sets and I will pay half your shipping plus the shipping to me. I really love these little screwdrivers!

Thanks,

I have a bag of these and I have extras which I will list for sale in the proper area when I get a chance.

which are now listed in the buy sell trade area of the forum

they might be worth keeping on the chain when screwdrivers are a no no. Other than that, they are just ok.

Just saw that at Book of Joe :

I'm not sure how practical it is, but I like the idea and versatility behind it - the ramped idea is just genius.

Neat idea. Its like a smaller version of a spark plug gap tool that I have seen at the auto stores with a tapered ramp around the edge.

the local Auto Zone sells them for about $1.00

Or, you can visit this thread and get in on the Group Buy (http://edcforums.com/index.php?topic=11809.0) from Lee Valley--$8.50 per dozen. ;D

You can mod these pretty easily for better keychain carry. You need a carbide tipped drill bit though. They are hardened.

looks just like the $.25 spark plug gapping tools just without the markings......

Harbor Freight has a bin of these in the store. They are marked so as to be useful as graduated feeler gauge/spark plug tool. I (sort of) bought one a few months ago. The guy at the register didn't know the price, and they were unmarked. So he just tossed it in the bag.

The sparkplug gauges are not hardened, and are made from some soft material like zinc or aluminum.

The Harbor Freight one is steel. Hardness is... good enough for screws. Hell, zinc or aluminum would probably be good enough. A compromise tool such as this isn't subject to a whole lot of leverage.

They're usually better than a coin and certainly better than nothing. I've also used mine several times (and so far without losing it!) to level a wobbly table at restaurants.
