View Full Version : Moderators, I have a small email notification dilemma...

Comcast.net has purchase my previous internet service provider Suscom.net.

I am forced to (at least temporarily) change my email from danbruner@suscom.net to danbruner1@comcast.net.

While Comcast has told me that any emails sent to my previous suscom email address will be forwarded to my new Comcast email, they neglected to state that forwarded emails would take up to 3 days to arrive...

Not related, but they have also dropped the ball and somehow have lost any emails sent to me for last two days (yay comcast, I'm underwhelmed with thier services already...)

Anyhow, I have updated my profile here at EDCF to reflect my new email address. And, I have tested that my new email address is working.

The problem... I will not be notified of ANY responses to posts that I have made or subscribed to prior to this email change.

I don't want to irritate moderators or other members, but the only way I see to regain notification on posts that I have made or subscribed to, is to "bump" them all, so that any new responses will get sent to my new email address.

Is this ok to do? Or perhaps, is there a way around it?

I won't procede till I get your ok, or maybe a different solution.

Thanks,
Dan

How many threads are you needing to bump?

I'm not a mod/admin, but I've been using forums for over 10 years...if you have updated your email address here, the normal process is that it sends an email to confirm your new address.* Then, future email notifications (even for old threads you posted in prior to the change) will (*should*) go to your new, current email address.

Are you saying you've already done this and are not receiving email notifications?* I don't think bumping the threads would be necessary to fix that...one of the admins may be able to fix it if it isn't working right.* The way it should work is you change your email address on here, it gets confirmed, then new email notifications get sent to the new address.* I don't see how bumping them would fix that...

Jumpmaster,

No, I haven't done anything yet aside from changing my profile here at EDCF to my new email address.

If what you are saing is the case here at EDCF about old subscriptions automatically being notified to my new email address, then that would be great. I haven't seen any notifications to any of my old post/subscriptions yet, but I only changed my email address here this evening. Perhaps a test is in order :)

If someone could post a reply to this topic, I could check to see if my new email gets notified:

Todd,

I'm estimating about 60...

But I won't touch a thing till I here from you or see how the test works out.

Thanks guys, much appreciated,
Dan

Just sent a test message on that thread...

BTW, if that test doesn't work, all you may have to do is not bump the threads, but go back to them and click on "notify" again...it should then notify you using the new email address you changed it to in your profile...in theory...:)

Hurray!

Thanks Jumpmaster! You were absolutely right about the notification on updated email profiles. It worked fine.

I sure am glad I asked before bumping all those threads.

Thanks again guys :)

EDCF works like a well oiled machine!
