Do any of you have experience with the new Sig Mosquito? I just saw it and handled it at a gun show this weekend. I really like .22s. It feels pretty good!

I too have been interested in it, I have a P220 and I love it, But another 22 you should look at is the walther P22, it is a awesome little handgun, also I own a ruger MKII and a 22/45 both of those are tack driving 22 autoloaders,

Thanks for the response. I have shot both the P22 and the MKIIs. All are nice. I just like those that don't look like .22s! As for target pistols, I was thinking of eventually adding a Buckmark to my collection. I got rid of my Trailside because of load malfunctions, but when it fired, it was awesome!

I hate to be the voice of doom, but stay as far away from the Mosquito as you can. They do not work.
We sold eight of them at the gun shop where I work and they all went back to Sig .Several of the owners are die-hard Sig collectors and they were appalled that Sig would release such a crappy product.
In a year or two Sig should have ironed out the problems or pulled the pistol off the market.Either way I would wait.

STAY AWAY FROM THAT PIECE OF CRAP. I made the mistake of buying one and then couldn't get rid of it. It had failure to feed problems, hell it jammed or faied to eject with just about every round.

I would recomend a .22LR conversion kit to a pistol you already have.
I have a Mark II, as well as a red-dot scoped Neos, But (hindsight is 20/20) I'm most happy with a .22LR conversion kit for a Glock 17. It has the advantages of being a pistol I'm familiar and comfortable with, not requireing FFL or paperwork, and versatility, small weight and size to make something else more useful.

I have been thinking about getting one for my Glock 19. If you don't mind me asking; what brand do you have?

Thanks everyone for the responses. I don't need to know much else. I had a Trailside that jammed too often. I got rid of it. I don't want that again. The little Walther looks nice! I don't know of any good conversion kit for my Sig 228, but I guess I never looked that closely. Thanks for the information everyone!

How does that shoot? I haven't heard too much about it. Any feed problems? I like that gun, too.

My Neo's is extremely accurate, when mounted with a scope. I think the stock black sights were hard to see inside of a black rail.
Two problems of note.
#1 Occasionally I get powder burns on my thumb and index finger from the action being 'right there'
Gloves don't work as the grip and trigger gaurd are almost already too small. (most .22 pistols are for me)
#2 During cleaning ( I always push a rod from the breech towards the muzzle) there is a VERY sharp piece of steel aimed at my hand (I started using a rifle length cleaning rod) but I feel it's an overlooked design flaw.
Otherwise very happy with a $220 pistol

Thanks for the information. I have a small hand so it might fit me well. I will check on the placement of the action with my hand. The other option is the Buckmark, always a nice gun.

Wow. Thanks for the information. I handled one at my local dealer and loved the way it felt. Guess, if I'm smart, I'll get another S&W 617 and leave the automatics alone.
First off 22's are light weight! Easy to get and cheep. I like a 22 Mag more then a 22 LR.
The chosen ammo for assassins is a 22 LR. Why? you might ask. Low noise levels and if the round is adjusted with a BB on the tip of a hollow point it will penetrate every known bullet proof vest made today.
If you rely need it, a muffler off a lawn-mower held over the barrel makes an affective silencer. No need to attach it.
The bad part of a 22LR is it has little or no stopping power.
As for field use I like my AR7 and my Walther's 22LR pump rifle.
I have a Ruger 22 Mag pistol, I have not carried or used for many years. I had to stop hunting a few years back.
A good 22 is more useful then all the high powered rounds. I have taken a deer with a 22LR and try taking a few rabbits with a 7mm mag and see what you get.
My first choice is a 22 Mag and then a 22LR.

I sure hope this last one was a gag with the intent on getting comments. If not, Don is scary.

Sig Mosquitoes are quite problamatic of late. Lots of customer complaints about reliability especially with ammunition outside of the high velocity range, such as target rounds or hypervelocity brands (Stinger/Super Max/Yellow Jackets/Expediter/Viper etc.)
Sig includes two recoil springs to allow users to tune the gun, but few people actually try switching them out. Recommended loads are CCI Mini-Mag Solid, Velociter, and WW Powerpoint. Due to Winchesters rimfire ammo plant relocating, winchester .22 ammo has been in extremely short supply and has driven people to try alternate brands that have proved problematic in small semi pistols like the P22 and Sig Mosquito. Hopefully these are just teething problems, and will not lead to Sig canning the Mosquito altogether.
For those with poorly functioning Trailside pistols, Sig admitted to a large batch of magazines that would function extremely poorly if at all. Contact Sig about the issue and they should swap out your mag.
Don, any combat wheelbarrows?
Hopefully no one tries the BB on the .22 trick. Anyone ever fire steel shot at Kevlar? Better have some really good shooting glasses.* :idiot2:

The little Walther looks nice!
That's a fun gun, but it's just good for plinging. Don't expect target shooting performances with it, you would be disapointed. In the area of cheap, light, small, polyvalent .22 hangun, I was very satisfied by a Taurus 94 (small frame, 9 shot revolver).

Just put an automatic on hold for another few years. Found a 6" S&W 17-3 in great shape for only $395. Wheelguns rule!

I've got a CZ 75 Kadet (.22 version of the CZ 75) and love it!
From what I understand, it's very accurate, though being my first gun, and a pretty bad shot so far, I'm not accurate enough to tell for myself.
Unless you're looking down the barrel, you would never know it was a .22, and I can trade out the topend onto my p01 when I get it.
It sells either as a kit (to go on your current CZ) or the whole gun, and I decided on the whole gun, so when I bought a second gun I'd have 2 guns, rather than 1.5guns if I'd bought my p01 and the kit separately.
CZ makes great guns, and if you're looking for a combat looking pistol that can be used for plinking and killing, it's an excellent choice.

That model 17 you mentioned with 6 inch is very nice. When I became 7 I got a 17 and 19. After that dad set them up with the same grips, the 17 had a target trigger and hammer so it was different than the 19 so we added a target hammer to the 19 and a standard trigger to the 17 so that they would be exact matches in handling. Then when the action job was done they were done at the same time and it was requested to bet the single and double action pull on both of them as close the the same as possible.
That model 17 is a fantastic gun.
