View Full Version : I'm overwhelmed! Is the forum TOO organized?

I guess I get frustrated reading the forums sometimes. And I know a lot of the other forums out there organize like EDC does, but I find that I don't get around to everything I want to read.

I found EDCF by way of ETS. There it is just three places to post...survival/emergency topics, long term survival and everything else. I can pop in, check to see new posts, see what topics might interest me, read them, post and move on.

And maybe I just don't understand the finer points of navigating EDCF. So if I'm missing something. would someone clue me in? Maybe I just don't get it. It just seems to take me so long to find what I'm interested in. I don't know of any specific suggestions I would have to remedy it...unless, like I said, I'm just not getting it.

I think this is a great forum, with great people posting...I just wish I could navigate it easier. I'm not trying to say talk bad about the way things are run here...just trying to make a point in a respectful way. :help:

I just click on the "Show unread posts since last visit" spot up on the top left of the home page. I can look over all the topics and threads that have been posted or replied to, and select what I want to read out of that list.

I know there are a lot of sub-headings on the main page, so this gives me a brief overview of what is there. As long as I'm not away for a week the number of threads to look at doesn't get too long! There are lots of posts happening here!

I have to agree, I just click show unread posts since last visit. or Show new replies to your posts if I recently replied to something.

Then from there I pick one or two sub-forumns to jump in and scroll through.

Hope this helps

This is just the way I do it so it may or may not be useful to you and I am using Internet Explorer with Windows XP. I say this because I don't know if this idea will work with other browsers or OSs.

I start with "Show new replies to your posts." and move that window to the far right. Then I hold down the Shift key while I click on each new post in the list. This causes a new window to open for each. I leave the "Show new replies to your posts." window open while I read through, reply and close each of the new post windows.

When I finish all that is left open is my browse window the "Show new replies to your posts." I hit refresh to see if anything new has shown up and if not I hit the "Show unread posts since last visit." link and do the same thing with the posts I want to read.

Once I get though the more recent stuff then I poke around in the individual boards but I still use the "Shift click" on the topics so I don't have to go back and forth between boards and topics all the time. This really saves me a lot of time and keeps me from losing my place. You are right, there is a lot going on here and keeping up is a challenge.

Hope this helps,
-LT

I do the same as LT, but I use FireFox, so I open new tabs instead of windows.
