Can somebody in MA tell me why the USP Compact is illegal for sale in MA? I heard it has to do with an issue over the decocker and safety configuration, but not too sure...Also, I wanted to know from someone in CA if this is a legal handgun in your area, as it's 9mm capacity is 13 rounds? Let me know what you all think. Thanks.

Cheers!

Good question.* It seems to cover all bases for being MA compliant.* It could be as simple as HK not sending the 3 samples to the AG for testing.* Maybe someone has an answer for you.

Doesn't MA also have the loaded chamber indicator thing? That being the reason lots of guns come with the "Mass hole" in the barrel?

Yeah, MA does have a requirement of a loaded chamber indicator, which is why new Glocks can't be sold on the open market to civilians at the present time.

Yeah, I checked out the MA Roster of Approved Handguns, and it says that some variants of the USP may not be legal for sale in MA, but it doesn't say which. It's a mystery to me why other than the high price tag this gun doesn't sell in MA.

Your home state has very specific requirements borne from the political machine. If a certain firearm is to be certified for sale in the state, it necessarily has to undergo testing and evaluation. It the State deems a certain attribute unworthy, the gun maker can perform the modications to meet the criteria or ignore it altogether and lose the sales from that state.

I highly suspect that HK has chosen to do the latter; deciding that the retooling necessary to modify their product line in order to meet the State of Massachusetts' requirements may simply not be in their financial best interest. HK has strong ties to the military with a large part of their revenues from federal government contracts. Additionally, many federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies use HK products. This revenue stream is apparently strong enough so that it can sustain the loss of business from a single State.

Unfortunately for us in Mass, that's the case with a lot of manufacturers. :( No Springfield Armory, no Les Baer, etc., etc., Definately not a firearm friendly state. All we can do as citizens, is vote during elections and try and get some of the right people in office. >:(

I did some investigating (asking around) and got the same answer, it doesn't make the 10 lb pull. I can't reach anyone who knows 100% for sure but now I want to know also.

Oh...yeah, didn't know about that. I think my USPC is about 8-lb pull...

I reside in California and I own a HK USP Compact 9mm with 10 round magazines. I purchased this gun, maybe a year and a half ago. The only restriction that I know of is that I had to stick with 10 round magazines. If I posses or use a 13 round magazine, I would be committing a felony.

I am looking at my G21 (3rd Generation), G30 and G26 and all three have a little protrusion when the chamber has a round in it...doesn't that = a loaded chamber indicator? Not trying to argue, just making sure that I know what I'm looking at...

I do know that in order to be MA and CA compliant, the manufacturers, as some previous posters have said, have to submit several samples for various types of testing and ballistic registries (a waste of time, but oh well)...that might be why H&K and some others aren't available for sale.

It's legal in CA, but with a 10rd Mag. I know quite a few people who carry that gun every day, and my USPc .40 is my favorite!

samson722: Do you have a more current list of approved guns, than 2004. As that is the only one I can find. TIA!
