I had a friend ask my opinion on the .45's and which one I would get for a CCW. I informed him that any of them from a good manufacturer would be suitable. While talking with him we remembered the .45 G.A.P and began looking into this round. I just thought I would put out the question to all here.
What is your inpression of the .45 G.A.P?
Would you purchace one or would you stick with a .45 ACP?
The only problem I have with this round at the moment is how few gun manufacturers are making a gun chambered for this round. I beleive the only ones that are chambered for it are the Glock and the Springfield XD.

Thanks

Only thing that bothers me is the price of the Ammo.for the Gap. And being able to find range Ammo. like WWB you find at WalMart for $22 box of 100 rounds.
Myself I am sticking with the old .45acp Thats what my new S.A.XD-45 service uses. ;)

Cost is a big issue for me as well. Unless this round takes off with the LEO's and police departments it will probably end up in the same boat as the .357 SIG round. it is a great proformer but is a little out of reach for the average joe.

I would avoid the 45 GAP like the plague. This round will be an orphan in short order. There haven't been enough guns sold in that caliber to justify anyone making the ammo.In a couple of years the 45GAp may be as easy to find as 41 Action Express.
Seriously the round doesn't do anything that another existing round doesn't do better and it's overpriced.

Its popularity was quite high just a short time ago.* It is a well thought out package.* Forty-five ACP power in a cartridge that will fit in a .40 cal-size pistol.* If I was not such a .40 & .45 user, I would jump on the opportunity to buy another pistol in this caliber.

With Glock and Springfield behind it, major ammo makers will back it as far as there are enough sales.* Just as cartidges such as the 10mm, .41 AE, & .451 Detonics Magnum showed much promise, this one will likely falter, fade, and maybe resurface.

Heck, Detonics just showed up AGAIN!

So, Just looking for opinions....

What's the feeling about the .32 NAA?

Not that familiar with it myself, but anytime a new cartridge comes out I wonder about its longevity.

This thread ran out of steam quickly, not too much interest in .45 G.A.P. Not for me either, too much invested in .40 & .45's to even consider it. I think Para Ordinance was releasing a small pistol to accommodate the round. Could be wrong on that.

Sherrif Dept. in my county is switching over to .45 ACP and alot of the local PD are following suit. One instructor I talked to said they looked at the GAP but cost, as with everyone else, was main issue. lots easier and cheaper to get/reload ACP ammo.

Michael Dell, a moderately successful computer guy, once said, in response to why he hadn't diversified in the direction of some of the new fads, that there were a lot of solutions floating around in search of a problem. My guess is that the .357 sig and the .45 GAP are marketing solutions to problems that didn't exist. After all, these are businesses trying to expand their markets. Sometimes the ideas take off, sometimes not. My $.02.

Well, 45 GAP fills a niche that few need, large caliber in a smaller grip frame. But the .357 Sig seems to be here for a while. The ballistics are good and many PD's are going to it.

I just "bit" the bullet and ordered a Glock Model 38 in 45GAP.

Glock is backed up 5 months for 45GAP for LEO's.

Cost is the consideration for me as well. I can no longer afford to shoot anything but 9mm and it has doubled in cost.

The GAP made sense in the context of when it was developed, during the magazine ban years.

Getting 10 rounds of a .45 into the same size gun as ten rounds of 9mm or .40 made sense. Now-a-days, not so much.

My G17 is carried daily with 20 rounds of Winchester 127gr +P+, I see no advantage to going to a round that costs more, recoils more, and gives me half the capacity.
