I don't know how many of you are like me, and will go out to scavenge/recycle/reclaim junk. For those of you who don't, some of the things I just picked up are: iron bench, firehose, lawnmower blade, bicycle inner tube, spokes, brick strap. All of which have been or will be put to good use.

What do you guys carry for getting junk? I have the limitation of what can be comfortably carried on my person while riding a bike, so options are cut and more choices must be made.

Wiss Aviation Shears
"Beater" Folding Knife 50/50 serrations
medium-large vise grips
large and small adjustable wrenches
medium sized regular screwdriver (If necesseary, vise grips can be applied for additional torque)
Needlenose pliers (standard EDC anyway)
A short length of whatever spare cord is hanging around.

I know, I know. I'll get a pic up soon....

What do you have that I should too? Or what can your equipment do that mine can't?

Have you thought of getting a small trailer for your bike?

The Unger Nifty Nabber tool is ideal for grabbing things which are out of reach, e.g., out of a dumpster, out of tree branches, etc. Nifty Nabbers are available in 4 different sizes. I keep a large one in my pickup truck and a shorter one at home.

They are better built than most competitive grabbers I see in stores. They are sold by several web stores as well as some Sears stores.

A magnet for checking ferrous and nonferrous metals... And a pair of leather gloves to keep hands looking perty...

you can pull some nice cord off some old mini blinds.
that mower blade on a grinder could make a nice knife with a duct tape handle.
wheres the pics,I'd like to see the bike and gear.

Shhh! I've been hiding from this thread as long as possible because I've been having a bit of difficulty with pics (again!). But some should be up by tonight, at which point I'll also have the chance to reply to y'all. :)

Finally,
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f12/NewBowyer/d9e4a3d6.jpg
~Wiss M2 Aviation Shears
~Medium Sized Regular Screwdriver, Small Phillips
~Beater Knife
~Standard and Metric Allen Wrenches (A couple missing from the standard since they're on another project)
~Large and Small Vise Grips
~Large and small adjustable wrenches
~Needlenose Pliers
~12' Tape Measure (sometimes switched with a Stanley 8' one)
~Telescopic Magnet

Ok, well there you go. First off, The wrenches are unnecessary because of the vice grips, they sure are more convienent though. Looking at this, I may scrap either or both of them. What are your thoughts on that?

A grabber would be cool, but it would take up the space necessary for bringing home junk. I'm young, and up for dumpster diving and scaling trees :D Along the same lines, gloves aren't really neccessary as I'd like to toughen up my hands anyhow.

The magnet was an excellent suggestion, thank you very much. I picked up the one in the photo today, it telescopes out 2 feet, and can easily pick up the beastly, large vise grips. Cost me $1, better investment than 20oz of purified tap water in my mind :P. In addition to checking metals, it can save me much frustration from getting tools out of the depths of dumpsters and such. It may be standard EDC material.

The trailer is a cool idea, but dosn't really suit my needs. I tend to be out biking for tens of miles on roads, trails, and 'trails'. I don't set out looking for junk, but it has a nice way of finding me along the way :)

copykat, the mower blade is currently being turned into a throwing knife :) It's rough profile is nearly done. More info coming as that progresses. If I remember, I'll post here. Otherwise be looking at the 'what customs do you own' thread.

Looking at that picture now, I get a feeling of "I CARRY ALL THAT STUFF?!", but thanks to the miracle of real cargo shorts, belt clips, and the Wiss Belt holster I hardly notice.
