Thought I would share my basic Maxpedition Condor hiking pack contents:

First picture (bottom compartment): Benchmade Mini-Grip, bandanna, Coleman poncho, Rite in the Rain notepad, Fisher Bullet pen, fine Sharpie marker, hank of red 550 cord, small PSK in Aloksak baggie/blue pouch.

Second picture (top compartment): Space Bag (going to swap for AMK heat sheet), pair of medical gloves, Petzl Tikka+, Suunto MC-2G compass.

Third picture (main compartment): Nalgene 32oz. bottle, Moonstone pullover, fleece liner gloves, wicking T-shirt, extra socks & underwear, T.P., small fishing kit/NATO matches/flagging tape & thread/needles (all in vials), 4x spare "AA" lithium batteries, 3x spare "AAA" lithium batteries, AMK Ultralight first aid kit.

Not shown are a few other items that don't always reside in the pack: Garmin Legend GPS, Leatherman Wave (new), trail snacks, local maps/topos of area, Surefire G2.

Water isn't kept in the pack, either. Although I do have plenty of bottled water in storage and more Nalgenes & Platypus bladders available.

How do you carry your water if not in the pack? Nice rig BTW.

why wouldn't you carry a hydration bladder inside the bag? it's my understanding that that is the best place to put it.

Oops... my bad. I didn't really explain that right. I do take water with me! (And it does go in the pack.) What I meant to say was for long-term storage it isn't kept in there. :-X

I've got a 72oz. Camelbak but since this is a first-generation Condor, the bladder pocket isn't set up very well. It can ride in the main pocket if need be.

Thanks guys! Just about everything in there is kept in a ziploc bag of some sort, or else an Aloksak bag. El Cheapo waterproofing. (Pfft... who needs a dry bag?)

I'm going to steal a couple of your ideas for my own, if you don't mind (or even if you do! :P)

Do you have anything like a folding saw or hatchet for building a small shelter or making a splint?

That looks pretty much like my hiking EDC :)

Great suggestion! One of my birthday gifts was a neat little folding Gerber "Gator" saw with two blades. (Always nice when you get to pick out something you want!) It probably deserves a home in my pack instead of the truck.

And feel free to take ideas or modify anything you see here! Lord knows I've borrowed plenty of ideas from other people.

And great minds think alike! ;D
