Please let me know what you think...

I plan to get a prybaby XL, a metal remote that i'll get powdercoated, and a better knife.

Cheers, fellows!

Very nice, and welcome from a fellow newb :)

The only major thing that I see missing is a torch. Unless it dosn't get dark where you live, get a flashlight! Even one much cheaper than the ones shown here can prove invaluable.

i have a Gerber tasklight ultra on an op/tech retractable leash that's on my backpack along with a few County Comm SOLED's in various places.

I'm holding out for a Fenix P1 or something similarly classy. Eh, my birthday is forthcoming.

Is that a Countycomm Titanium quick link holding everything together? If so, how is that thing holding up? I have several arriving tommorow and I will be using them immediately for various uses.

Also, a word of caution about placing private information on a very public internet forum such as that contained on your dog tag.

Oh BTW, welcome aboard if you haven't been greeted warmly already!

pretty well, actually. the revision seems to be effective.

I'm very satisfied with mine.

Welcome! Like your set-up there. I used to have that little Panasonic cellphone. I used to wear it around my neck.

nice edc, hw are you liking your gerber? ive thought about buying one but for some reason just never pulled the trigger.

it's served me really well, actually. i love how it rides in my pocket and is really low profile.

it's starting to get a pinch dull, but i've had it for almost 2 years without sharpening it.

it's a very good value. i'll probably get something similar to switch out occasionally. something like a microtech mini ums or benchmade 812.

it's my most common EDC. it's on me more often than most things.

When I got it as a gift, I was under the impression that it was something like AUS-8 or maybe a little better.

I googled it just now and a the majority of places say its 154CM, one place says 440A, one says 400A, and Cabela's and Excalibur Cutlery says ATS-34. :idiot2:

I think it's time to shoot them an email, cos if it really is 154CM it's the cheapest knife with that steel that I've ever seen in my life. :D

Heck, I'd buy another.

yeah if its either 154cm or ats-34 buy it, cause they are the same steels. 154 cm is just crucible's copy of hitachi's ats-34 both are great steels

When I got it, I thought it was VG-10. Let's see what Gerber has to say about it.

Thank you for your e-mail. The steel type is 420 HC.

I wonder when they switched to 420HC? *I've got a first production run Applegate-Fairbairn Covert that is marked ATS-34. *if memory serves, 420HC has better corrosion resistance, so it might be a better fit, depending on how it will be used.

Althought I don't EDC mine, it is one of the most easily carried folders for it's blade size that I've seen. It definitely is a low-position carry.

I believe the full-size one still is ATS-34. The one I have is the mini. I believe they may have switched over to 420HC fairly recently, as mine performs much better than other 440 pieces I have and it's about two years old.

Covert = mini, AFAIK. 3.75" blade.

I believe the full-size one still is ATS-34.

I have a full size, an older one with the thumb break styled sheath. Just went to look & it doesn't have the type of steel marked on it anywhere, the box doesn't either. If Gerber was using ATS-34 on this back in the 90's when I bought mine I would have thought they'd have marked it that way somewhere..
