* * * * * * I just got my Utility Hideaway Knife in the mail today, and it is already one of my favorite knives. The Utility knife is a very sturdy and concealable. The Utility is made of 440C stainless steel which holds an edge almost as well as 154CM but has better corrosion resistance. The thing that makes this knife so unique is that it is held with your fingers instead of your hand. There are also many ways to carry it such as the ones found HERE (http://www.hideawayknife.com/carryoptions.php).
I decided to test the wear resistance by slicing a cardboard box about 15 times. After I finished, I could barely tell that the blade was less sharp. So I ran it through my ceramic knife sharpener about 3 times and it was as good as new.
I like this knife a lot and would recommend it to anyone.
Here are some Pics:

Nice! I've been thinking about getting one of those utility one's. What I really want though, is Mick Strider one. Hard to come by, and not so cheap when you can get them. Still b**a** though! Great review!

I have a util HAK and a Strider HAK... ;D I usually have one or the other on me at any given time, but...sometimes get strange looks from people at work. I don't think they liked my Hinderer Ti pen either...hmmm.....

It's the straight one...same profile as the util HAK...I'll see if I can find some pics or take some after work...

They are great knives XdanX but I noticed you live in CA. IIRC in Calif it is illegal to carry a fixed blade knife concealed so be careful where you EDC it. That is the only thing that is stopping me from getting one.

That is one of the greatest fixed blades. I would totally get the utility over the other customs. The others looks cool, but the blade shape of the original, like the utility HAK, is best in my opinion. It has great steel. To tell te truth, 440C or better, it can very difficult to distinguish any differences in quality of the steel.
You just can't beat the price of $69.
Great, great catch!

I've had my HAK Utility for a few months now. Excellent EDC knife, it's around my neck most any time I'm awake.

Quite neat, are there any pics of one against a ruler, or does someone have dimensions? This is one of those things that I don't have the money for, but could probably make myself..... one of VERY poor quality that is... but if it's free, and somewhat functional, that's all I care about ;D

Yes, the Util HAK is great...I have one of those also...at that price point, I think no one should have an excuse not to! Blade length is right at 2", IIRC for the straight ones like my Strider HAK and the Util HAK. The curved ones have slightly longer edges.
I highly recommend them...go to their page and just look at all the links to different deployment methods and sheathing options. The mind boggles! I am going to get a couple of the sheath sticks soon to attach one to my seatbelt during the not-as-hot months here...(it doesn't really get "cold" where I am...and Kydex tends to loosen in extremely hot temps...)

Thanks for the blade length; the shots on their website compared to the playing cards were also very helpful. I'll have to secure some steel and play around :)

I ordered a HAK straight with DLC coating earlier this month and received it on the 19th. I was surprised at how small the knife was. I knew it would be small but it was still surprising. The knife was extremely sharp and had a nice dark no nonsense color to it. The sheath was very well made, secure and minimal.
I have been carrying it around my neck since getting the knife and have barely noticed it!
The capsule takes a little getting used to but I have found just using it for mundane tasks has increased my dexterity and comfort with this little knife.
Now for my confession:
Yesterday I was taking a couple of swipes at a cardboard box with my knife. Right handed no problem. Nice penetration and sliced easily and controllable. Switch to my left hand and same thing. Except for the steel beam next to my target :( Being ever so graceful and observent I managed to hit a steel beam right on the edge with my brand new knife :lolhammer: I knew the knife was going to be ruined or at least damaged badly. A quick inspection revealed absolutely no damage. Not even the extremely fine point was nicked! The steel beam had a nice little chunk gouged out of it where my knife struck! The edge was dulled but a couple of strokes over a diamond sharpener and it was popping hair again!
I have sweat all over this knife, abused it, and generally whipped it. The little Hideaway is the toughest knife I have ever had!
I wanted a fixed blade knife I could actually carry, use and conceal. I have tried lots of other makers and styles. None have done for me what the Hideaway does! Frontsight is top notch and will definitely be getting more of my business!
BTW: I did take pics but can't post them from this computer right now.

Yep, I have two now. A utility HAK and a Ken Brock custom claw. Beautiful concept and lines. I wear one or the other pretty much 24/7 at the moment, and don't notice I'm wearing it. I'm musing whether to get more, but it's not really much of a fight. I just have to decide which maker and which configuration to get next. I have a feeling it's gonna be the 'curvy' one.
I couldn't let this go without saying that HAKs make a great companion to a Top Popper with a photon light attached via a short ball chain. Perfect edc.

Who needs a class ring anyways! ;D The Utility HAK is an awesome knife for the price. The one that you see pictured with all the colors runs around $200, so what you have does give the most bang for your buck.
Great catch. I hope to see pictures when you receive it. ;)

DH, I wisih I could take credit for the wrap, but my Father-in-law did it for me. I'm still learning... I wanted a color that was different from what i'd seen before. I think we made a good choice as I am very happy with it.

Don't want to get too far off topic, but they have pepper spray available to tolerate the heat inside vehicles.

Sorry CY. I am only offering the paracord service because I know how to do it. I used to have a HAK and I wrapped and rewrapped it several times when I got bored of the color. Leather braiding in a whole different skill that I would love to get into.
You have one you would like me to wrap, just let me know.

I'd be happy to do it for you. I could have it sent back to you the same day I receive it. The colors of paracord that I have is grey, black and red. If you want another color just let me know and I'll buy it. I could always use more paracord.

The Utility HAK is on my birthday wish list. :smitten:
It's funny, because the first time I saw one of these, I didn't "get" it. But when I finally took some time to sit down and read the site fully, it's amazing just how much sense this knife makes. Its appeal for me totally lies in its accessibility, its ease of maintenance, and its finger-hold design. It really seems incredibly foolproof.

The nice thing is that it is custom sized just for you. I bought the 5-1/2" size and after it was wrapped, it fit perfect. I am going to save for a titanium version as I have a ton of wants! Don't we all!

Have you actually handled one. Once you have, it will make you a believer. You can hold anything while having the knife still in hand. It's like having a built in claw attached to your hand.
