NICE KELTEC :)

In MA, anything over 3 in is illegal, and that gets even stricter by the towns and cities. The real law is though, "If someone deems it scary looking, it's illegal."..... BB guns are considered firearms here.
That's why I like my pliers and sling (not saying the sling could be used for selfdefense :idiot2:), both are exceptional weapons but most people here are so incredibly naive, that they think that they can't be dangerous simply because they're not sharp, heavy, or a gun.

Actually, there is no length limit for Mass. I know, I was a police officer. ;D Now that being said, there are length limits depending on town/city by-laws. I heard lawrence just passed one recently with a 2 or 2.5 limit, and Boston is around the same.

As for switchblades, there are exceptions. If the blade is under 1.5 inches, it's legal. It's also legal if you have certain disabilities. (LEO's are also exempt from this rule)

CanDo
06-19-2006, 01:47 PM
Well that's cool :D
I'm just going on what the Walmart guy told me the other day, and considering all the liberals (pseudo-intellectual, and babyish ones alike) around here, it didn't surprise me at all :P

In fact, I wouldn't have been surprised if you use a 6" knife to cut the jammed seatbelts of a kid trapped in a car ready to explode, and then get arrested for having it..... I've probably just been brainwashed and paranoid though.

I should also probably mention that my illusion of the law, didn't stop me from carrying my knife.

Bruiser
06-21-2006, 08:59 AM
Unfortunately as has been mentioned by numerous others before, it also boils down to the officer in question. A lot don't know the actual law concerning blade length and go by the "3 finger rule" . :(

I, too, live in The PRM ( Peoples Republic od Massachusetts ).

My working theory for edc weapon possession is the "acting like a jerk" theory. I have seen teen age punks being arrested for carrying a bat in the trunk of the car. Because they were acting like a jerk. Fine with me.

If you're hanging out on the corner playing with a balisong and harassing pretty girls - you are a jerk. If you are cutting plastic wrap off a new whatever in public and not trying to intimidate people - LEO's don't care about you : You're not registering on the "Jerk Radar"

Double edges knives are a definate no no however.

Here's a decent question for you... Why the hell am I able to walk into a boutique knife dealer in Boston and pick up a push dagger, but yet the law will not allow me to carry an automatic? I don't expect to be excused just because I'm an EMT, I just think it makes sense that if I'm not some jerk threatening law abiding citizens with physical harm, that I should be able to at least carry one while on-duty to make my job a little easier. Is that totally unreasonable in your estimation?

alwilliam
06-29-2006, 06:09 PM
Push knives are as taboo as autos in most states in the US.Its a very old law from the late 1800s that was made way before the 1950s ban on autos.

Not unreasonable at all, but the law views it's citizens as guilty before committing a crime, so carrying an auto or a push dagger will get you in loads of trouble. It is just not worth the headache. I love push daggers too. I love the simple concept of it, but it is a shame we can't carry them. And what is also true of what was stated earlier, double edged knives are a no no in most jurisdictions also.

alwilliam

The auto law was just a reaction law.The push knife and double edge laws are based in the fact that these designs work very well.

Thanx GG. I used to jury-rig my keys ti the Hinderer piece, but it was not all that great, so while I wait to get a keychain end from him, my keys ride around on the Ayoob D-Jammer. The D-Jammer is an interesting item with multiple uses, but its just a little too small in diameter for me.

traveler
07-09-2006, 05:52 PM
The knives that I EDC now, M.TEX, are the ones in the picture. The knife on the left is the one that I carry around after work or on weekends. It is a Timberline knives Pistol Grip knife, one of the most ergonomical knives I have had the pleasure to wield.( It was a Secret Friend Gift Giveaway from Deaths Head, actually) The other is my work knife,a Shomer Tech "Companion" neck knife made of titanium, that I also like to carry when bicycling due to its light weight and thin profile. I have other knives that sometimes get put into rotation, but these two are my mainstay.

Traveler-

That will work plus you already have a keyring hole drilled in the top. I put a light coat of clear nail polish on the punch prior to wrapping to help the cord stay in place then coated the wrap with the same when done.

Post a pic when you're finished.

Finally got the pin done.I was going to use your suggestion of coating the the pin and cord with nail polish, but I went with Plasti-Dip, a vinyl-type of dip that is used for tool handles. Takes the "cold"from the steel;feels nice and enhances grip and as a bonus, it looks like plastic, unless of course you handle it( it weighs about a half-pound or so)

Aloha Everyone,

Here's my urban EDC (outdoors EDC doesn't change this too much, but more stuff is added like a "mini-kit" and a "maxi-kit" and a backpack):

small card wallet (ID, credit cards, misc cards, cash, fresnel lens, finger band-aids, cotton square, sparklite, jute cord) & pocket cash
RAZR phone
Breitling watch
pen
swisstool spirit OR alox farmer SAK [update from picture: I now carry a German One-Handed Trekker]
house & misc keys
car key (only one set, depending on what I am driving that day)
business card case & ipaq 4150 pda (when I am working)
EDC keychain (whistle, small SAK, fenix LOP, small sharpener)

depending on what I am doing, my bag with other stuff in it. cars have yet more stuff.

I try to keep the EDC to a minimum as I am mostly in shorts and don't always want to carry a bag. I appreciate any suggestions and comments.

Mahalo ToolFool. I haven't quite figured out my optimal EDC yet, so I am hoping this forum will help.

My ulterior motive for posting the picture (my first of my EDC) was to get feedback to try and tweek what I carry and how I carry it. 90% of the time, I am in shorts and a shirt; and of course being in Hawaii, 99% of the time will have no jacket.

I just picked up a small and cheap leather? belt pouch and will try it out today.

Aloha, hanzo, and mahalo for your participation here at EDCF. I, too wear shorts on an (almost) daily basis, but try to keep as much as possible in my backpack, thus relieving me of unwanted impedimenta, but to be honest, I would feel a little better if I could carry more of my EDC on my person, so I too am looking for items that will help me to do that without being too big and bulky. I just came across this, and it looks good for my purposes: http://www.pockits.com/ I hope this might help, and if you find something else, please share it with us.

I have a few Pock Its holsters. It helps to see them in person before purchasing to determine which model will hold your EDC gear.

The Fry's Electronics store in my area carries them. Check http://outpost.com to see if there is a Fry's Electronics in your area. I've also seen a few of these cases sold in a tool supply store.

Thanks for the tip traveler. My business attire has gone from tailored suits to aloha attire (business casual) to shorts and sandals. Profitability has gone up as my dress has gone down. I think I am moving in the right direction. I do not think the level of dress will go down any more (no one, well maybe except for my wife, maybe, will want to see me in less clothes than that), but I hope profitability continues to soar!

The NiteEyes look nice. I have just had a hard time with belt pouches. I like em flat and small and discreet, yet capable of holding a fair amount of the stuff I do carry and/or would like to carry.

I feel that carrying gear in a bag is all fine and good (I carry stuff in an almost daily carry messenger bag), but I want some basic items on my person, because on a day to day basis, I large part of the day finds me with my bag in the car, which also has other car gear. I figure whatever items that are not on my person will not be of any immediate help.

Other than carrying less stuff or always carrying a bag, what else can you all suggest?

I do actually! I thought you could get one of these and tie some paracord to it, then the end of the paracord round your waist - just like I do. That way you don't even have to worry about it - it's always there when you need it! Remember to always check it in at airports though, they won't allow it on as hand luggage...
