View Full Version : OVAL Split Rings
For as long as I can remember, I've used the round variety. I have stopped using the larger sizes because they are too bulky. For EDC, the oval shape seems to make more sense; particularly if only carrying a few keys. Anyone have any experience with using them or have any that I can buy?
This one from the Worth Company (http://www.worthco.com/rings/x2.html) seems to be of good quality.

They'd be nice on a tubular webbing keychain. I'm guessing, with another attachment method, all the key will bunch up (and point outwards) on the thinner part.

I will place the order on Monday and let everyone know when I receive them. They make four sizes, but i'm only ordering three sizes unless a few people want the very small ones. The smallest size seems to be too small for any use??

I'm just kidding... They will be very cheap when we do get them. I am just going to divide the cost of the order by 3000 and that should give me the total each. I buy split rings all the time and they cost about $1 for two, so I am hoping that these are good quality...

Got my order today :( They are soooooo much smaller than what I wanted. The largest size won't even fit a standard house key. They would be perfect for lanyards or craft projects, but not as a split ring for your keys. If anyone still wants some just send me a PM and I will be happy to sell you some.

To give you an idea of the size of the largest one, it is about the same size as the split ring on most SAK's, but too thick to even work for that! The large size #8 will only fit if its near the outside edge of the kydex. I put one on my Atwood Son of Prything and it worked fine along the edge...

Closer to 3/8" for the large size. My mistake was assuming that they were "KEY" split rings. The company only has four sizes and 3/8" is the largest.

Here area couple attached to the Photon Freedom Micro, a Spro #2 Heavy Swivel, and a Berkeley Poin Nano Clip.* These are the #8 size: the largest size.* These oval split rings are tiny, but I have found an application for them already. They lay very flat on this setup.

50x6 and 50x8 came today--padded envelope even.
I may be the only one, but I actually found even the size 6 a little big! However, as hard as it is to actually attach to anything, I'm not sure if I would be patient enough for size 5. Now to figure out what all of these 99 can be used for (I lost one already!). If I can pull off some macros, I'll put up pics for reference (but before I even try that, size 6 will comfortably fit on an Arc AAA).

Super-close shots didn't do so great, but I think this works for size comparison:
http://www.doddstech.com/users/egdii/oval%20rings.jpg
The rings on the Arc and Leatherman are size 6, the lone ring is size 8, and the keys are just for another source of reference for relative size. Also, attaching the ring to the Arc doesn't scratch into the anodize coating nearly as bad as the stock split ring.
Next stop? Zipper pulls!

Hey do you have a scanner? If you do try laying the rings and scanning them. I used to do that for ebay items I was selling before I got a cam. You can even put objects for size comparison.
Just lay an appropriate color t-shirt on top to act as a cover when scanning (gee, forgot about that old trick i used to use).
