It reached 97 here (South Georgia) on Sunday before some rather energetic thunderstorms moved through. I can tolerate the heat alright (I have worked outside jobs before) but the Missus and I prefer our sleep area rather chilly, usually around 65-70 degrees, much to the displeasure of the resident teenager ;D

It has been miserable here in NC the past few days--way too hot, too soon. Feel like a slug--almost gave up on putting up the kids pool... We are supposed to get a break on Thursday.

Try putting an Otter Pop on your forehead, raggie. That should help. ;)

On February 2, 1996, it was -60F in Tower, MN, the current record for the state. This Memorial Day, where I am, about 200 miles south of Tower, it was 97F - a difference of 157 degrees. Would any of you guys trade some of that heat to live in a place where you can climb into your freezer to get warm? ;D

You can always put more clothes on, you can't always take more off.

Todd- Heard that one before. :) How about this one. I used to carry pliers with me (EDC) in the winter when I had the Bemidji territory so that I could pull the car door handle push button back out when it was 50 below. By the way, the light does go off when you close the freezer door. ;D

I'm here in California. It is pretty hot! 90's right now. But it is a dry heat, so it ain't that bad.
Not like that annoying wet cold.

Several years ago I spent a week in the Austin, TX area.
It was 100+ degrees for the entire week. The family I was visiting were constantly complaining about how hot it was. I told them this is great weather... they thought I was nuts.
Then I explained the lovely weather phenomenon we have here in SC... HUMIDITY.
I'll take hot and dry over hot and wet any day when it comes to the weather.

Porkchop - Exactly right - Evaporation is a cooling process. I spent some time in the Mojave Desert at Fort Irwin,CA, in the 60's. Question for you California and other dry heat members. Do they still make the desert water bags that you saw hooked over the bumper horns of cars traveling the highways in the '50's? We had them on the tanks and they worked great.

I dunno where exactly in Austin you were, but up here in Paris, TX we got your humidity up the wazoo! For example right now it is 81 degree with 65 % humidity....I wouldn't be surprised a bit if the temp were to drop to the 70's and the humidity rise to the 70's. Trust me, us Texans know exactly what humidity is.

Right. The summer before I went to Phoenix for grad school it hit 122 and it was "dry heat". They were still selling those t-shirts that had a skeleton clutching a beer that said something like "oh yeah . . .but it's dry heat"
