I like to make mock-ups to see just how it might feel. You get a good idea on the shape and how it will fit your hand. Here's my latest mock-up - a Micro Bug-Out Blade. I size them to the right length. Then glue to foam core board, then cut out with Xacto blade. It's one of my favorite things to do when waiting for a new gadget, whether it be a knife, keychain tool, or flashlight. Sometimes I make mock-ups to see if I'd be happy with the size/shape before I buy. It allows you to kind of handle it, and in the day and age of internet purchases this can be really helpful for things you can't handle in person.

Yeah, and if you pay the shipping, too, that would be great! ;)

You could call them Atwood-bes.

It's not anywhere near as much fun as having the real thing! And foam core doesn't hold an edge for very long. :)

I'll be very happy when the real deal shows up! Then the mock up gets put in the circular filing cabinet.

To see how big an ipod was I made a cardboard version and compared it to my discman. That was a big eye opener, those things are tiny!

Here's another one I made today. It's the Surefire L1. I'm really looking forward to getting a Surefire, always wanted one when I was younger. I will be super happy when the real thing arrives. :)

Just had the Micro-Card in there for reference... and because I really like it. I actually use the Micro-Card more than I use my folders since I got it, does all the cutting I need. Haven't really used the folders at all since, haven't needed to. I'm still amazed by it - so simple and efficient! :)

The Micro-card is very handy indeed !!!! Most of the time you don't need that big knife and the Micro is easy to carry and readily available for use. It is an excellent tool !!!!!!!!!

I have never thought about doing that, and I think it is a neat idea and very funny. Thanks!

(Smiling) actually it's pretty cool ... and you did well getting the ratio right on the print out. back in the day when I had no absolutely no patience, I could have done with one of these for my first Microtech Halo II.

I could use one for one of these:

I found the easiest way to do it is to use MS Paint. I print it, measure it, figure out how much I need to enlarge or shrink it, and then use the stretch/skew to make changes. Two print-outs and I've got the size pegged.

This thread is way to funny!

Not to say that that is an awsome idea!

Please tell me, what is that interesting object shown in the top of your photo?

Thanks,

Then its either a Halo II switchblade or the sheath. You are probably admiring the switchblade that is closed, while the bottom one is open.

I don't think we are on the "same page".

What I'm refering to is the photo on post #20 in this thread from RyanMalpiede.

The top and bottom objects shown in that photo are two different things.

I understand that the bottom one is a switchblade, but I can't figure out what the top item is?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dan

The 2 objects are in fact the same knife- on the top the knife is closed and turned to the side so that you can see the clip. The bottom knife is open (obviously) You can tell they are the same by the shape of the handle (the contour near the sliding switch) and the little hole on the triangular tip of the clip.

Can someone tell me who makes this knife/where it can be found?

Back to the thread- I have never made such "elaborate" mock-ups, but I have drawn out dimensions on paper and once or twice have sized printouts of the object in question to scale.

Ahhhh!

You are so right!

Don't know what I was thinking, but for some reason it really looked like two different things.

Thanks for your patience and explanation.

Had I studied it more closeley... :(

Must be the bourbon :D

Thanks again,
Dan
