Everything I have listed here http://edcforums.com/index.php?topic=912.from1147915357;topicseen#msg86 05 with the exception of the SAK, knife, and Bic.
I have just recently added the mini prybaby, and am still unsure if I will attempt to travel with it. I always have a AMK UltraLight .5 FAK in my laptop bag, so that goes with me also.
I carry very little on my person when I travel. Now my suitcase is another story......

I'm guessing that's not a fountain pen, though, right? Don't they frown on those?

For my wardrobe's sake, I tend to stick with a ballpoint.

You could always use Stormdrane's New Tide To Go Stain Remover Pen for the exploding fountain pen trick. :)

When travelling commercial, I check baggage with the sharp stuff. The rest of the normal EDC, and a couple of extra items, all go into a vest from Royal Robbins. This makes going through security easier, since instead of emptying pants pockets I just put the vest through x-ray. During flight the vest makes it easy to get to gum, water, flashlight, paperback, etc. without having to fumble under the seat or wiggle around enough to get things out of pants pockets.

As often as I travel, that is not a viable option. Plus, I like to have my stuff with me.

I often wear my Royal Robbins 5.11 vest when flying out, too. Its a useful way to beat the paltry 5kg allowance the airlines give for hand luggage allowance, as I usually take a Maxpedition Falcon as my carry-on, and when one considers that Ive got personal DVD player, dvds, various electrical leads n chargers for Dvd/phone etc it soon reaches 5kg.
I usually carry on my Surefire E2D (no problems, yet! even at Palma Airport, Mallorca who are VERY security concieous!), I pack my Folder, & a SAK or Leatherman in my toiletry bag in my checked luggage & usually keep my swiss-tech utilikey on my keys with a "faux-ton" light. I carry the keys in my bag, not pocket where theyd be "looked at" & so far, considering utilikeys are on that FBI weapons list, Ive not had anyone notice/mention my Utilikey.

- Dell Axim x50v (only in business trips, I don't carry the PDA on vacation)
- Fisher space pen
- Magazines, newspaper

At least, at Philly airport, as long as you have the"profile appearence of a terrorist", TSA will never bother you!!
TSA would rather strip search the little old grannies in walkers. PERVS!!! :spank:

What brand of smokehood do you use? I was thinking of getting some EVAC-U8 hoods, but with the recall I'm unsure what to get.

Generally, I like to have a couple of folders with me (checked, of course :)), a SAK of some sort being one of them, plus a couple of flashlights, usually one of them on me. Last time I flew, I took my Maxpedition Fatboy Jumbo as carry on - kept pointy and sharp things in my checked baggage and carried the essentials like pocketbook, camera, paracord, etc. with me. Never got questioned on the pen thing.

I try to keep the important stuff with me. Checked baggage isn't as safe as it once was. I also try to bring items that, in a pinch, could be used for defensive purposes. It has bothered me for years, ever since the new regs, that I can't carry my standard gear with me particularly my pocket tools and knife.
[/rant on]
I've had some interesting experiences with the TSA and inconsistency seems to be the constant. I can never really know if something that went through last trip will be confiscated the next trip. Since they can make up the rules as they go we are all subject to the whim of the day. There is also no recourse should there be a problem. The website says send email, the email says call this number, the recording at that number says send email at the website. It also bothers me that they can sell their ill gotten goods, via confiscation, on places like eBay and some airports use this for additional income.

What!!!!!
They get to sell that stuff????
That seems that will influence the outcome of a check. I had no idea they got to keep and sell the stuff themselves.
I need to think on this a little while.

According to the TSA: They didn't confiscate it, you surrendered it. Therefore, they can do as they please with it.

Last time I flew I had an Arc AAA-P with me and my ol' trusty Leatherman PST in my checked baggage.
I like the idea of carrying a self-addressed envelope (maybe USPS Tyvek type) with postage already affixed. If the TSA gets to open that and keep anything I wonder if that becomes mail fraud?
I try to keep it light and easy with air travel, with nothing super expensive or special that I couldn't replace.

Flashlight, pen, wallet, iPod. Nothing is more valuable than being able to drown out idiots (err, inconsiderate fools) around you. The pen makes for a great improvised weapon, and the light is good for seeing if/when you drop anything.

I happen to take trains. So as long as you are discreet and NOT act like a complete Jacka**, you can carry almost anything!! ;)

The broad sweeping powers of the Patriot Act may invariably override this. :(

I have flown twice (RT) with my prybaby and not had a problem. Last trip I decided to be bold and had my Hinderer Kubaton attached to my key on my Proteus. Thougth I would say it was for breaking windows in case of a water accident (condolences to the folks in Minn). Passed through without a second look, phew......

A medium good knife, or my SAK checked and buried in my luggage, and a tiny crock sharpener.
Princeton tec Impact XL in my bag.
Water Bottle- empty through security
Small sectioned box of meds
Notebook and pen.
Headphones
Goldfish crackers to eat or bribe other people's kids into quiet.
I had a friend who used the vest trick. One day he put the vest in the x-ray and had his AA mag and a mechanical pencil line up. Security thought it was a stiletto.

Checked Baggage? Jeez, that's not EDC....
In check baggage I can safely declare & carry my H&K, a Gurkha, the standard M203 tube and a small qty of ammo...
:woohoo:
Pockets?
TSA seems to Miss my Swiss-Tec and a stun pen "disguised" as a flashlight, I've seen the sword mounted cane with blowgun tube conversion and a Toothpaste tube filled with 2.7oz of Fixor???...! (no not Fixodent...! check sp.)
:-X
Can the TSA screeners really hope to keep up with the new technologies?

With all the restrictions on air travel, I was just wondering what people carry when flying?
On the plane:
Photon II
Whistle
Keys
Wallet w/ coins, safety pins, bandaids
Bandana
Inova X1
Ear plugs
Advil
Eyedrops
Spare contacts
Reading material
Pens/pencils
Pocket Mod
I pack the sharps in my checked bag. I usually take a not-too-expensive folder, an 84 or 91mm SAK, a 58mm SAK, Leatherman Fuse or Juice S2, and Leatherman Squirt P4. IOW, when I get to my destination I'm back up to my standard minimalist carry.
When traveling very light and carrying everything on board I've been known to stop at a Target or WalMart at my destination and buy a SAK, then mail it back to myself. It's a good excuse to add to the collection.

Other than leaving blades and multitools at home (or placed in checked luggage), my EDC doesn't really change when I travel. Grab my EDC pack and I'm ready to go. :)

I really like the vest idea. I usually carry the following:
Pen
Flashlight (mini mag with LED conversion or Inova Xo3
Gum
Photon keychain light
pack of tissues
bandana
whistle
candy/snacks
bottle of water
book or two
advil, Immodium AD
hand santizer
I also have a seperate backpack with all my diabetes supplies (insulin, needles, test strips, pump supplies, etc.). I never had a problem in the U.S. with my diabetes supplies. International flights, they harass me and treat me like I am bringing in a suitcase of hand grenades.

Last I checked, no large containers of liquid (like bottles of water) are allowed to be carried through the security checkpoint. On the other hand, you should feel free to buy said water on the other side at one of the airport's stores.

Often they will request that you drink or dispose of it before boarding however.

My challenge for 10+ hour flights is fighting boredom. I cannot sleep on flights, and I've tried everything including meditation, consuming large amounts of alcohol ;D, in one case, staying up several hours prior to the flight.
I recenly purchased a 30 gb video Ipod and the thing is money in the bank. I have several hours of movies/tv shows. I also purchased an external battery which you seat the iPod into-making it look like one device that's about 3/4" thick. With the battery, I have about 16 hours of power.
Because of the small screen, and attention span, I limit most viewing to TV shows and comedies. Great item, but not good for wathcing the Lord of the Rings or 300.

ok, dude you must try the PSP then....!
I have a case/stand with extra batteries (one battery has 4+ hours) and the UMD movies can be had online for reasonable prices (like a downloaded iTunes movie)
Yes and TV shows, videos can be easily put on a Memory Stick ...compressed several shows can be had on a 2GB stick...tivo desktop and others can automatically size and save shows or series.
Bigger screen, play games or watch a movie!

I have been using my 80 GB iPod for travel.
It has been the best solution so for for me.
Yes, the screen is smaller than a PSP, but I go back and forth between music and video.
I mostly watch TV shows from iTunes and listen to podcasts.
Forget the alcohol and talk to your doctor about Xanax to relax on flights.

Yeah, I like the capacity of the iPod's and have one I use, however I've slowly been migrating to my phone and PSP as these technologies improve.
I have a HP 510 iPAQ Voice Messenger I just moved from the hw6913

The PSP plays MP3 without (DRM!) the iPAQ use Windows Media Player. the new 2GB Micro SD cards hold plenty and are swappable. The new 16GB and 32GB are available...like before prices will come down....eventually
I now use my iPOD as a HDD and have my Linux Boot images (ISO) and my VMWare images as well as my Vonage SoftPhone VoIP...

I travel on short 1-2 day trips and I like to fly light. Many of my trips are on Small regional plane so it it easier to gate check my bags, that makes taking the essential a littler harder.
For the most part I carry a Max Jumbo with the following:
1. Spec Ops Dry cell with some basic OTC drugs and a small first aid kit. I also carry a expired Passport for back up.
2. Mp3 Player, Heardroom head phone amp, and Sure e2c ( the e2c are great as I can wear them and the flight attended think they are ear plugs, I can listen to music from start to finish)
3. Nintendo DS
4 General office supplier ( pens, not pad, Sharpies, some paper clips, binder clips and a small sewing kit
5 An empty Nalgene bottle that I fill up when I get through security ( I have accidentally gone through with it full-accident, thanks TSA for being awake)
6. My Pelican M1 LED, spare batteries
7 To small rolls of Duck tape from adventure medical
8. Plastic Silver ware I pick up at the food court, Some times they take it some times they do not.
9 Digital camera
10 Charger cords.
The rest of my gear is in a roller bag.
So far so good, I have noticed that Security is about back to what it was pre911 as I have forgotten to take certain things out of my Jumbo before hand and have gone through with no issue. Granted my outbound is though a large international airport and their volume is much higher than the smaller regional ports I arrive at, they are 100x tougher on inspection

....we have an outlet by my office that resells confiscated/donated items. I can verify that this indeed is what happens, as every few months they have plastic bins arrive with knives, multitools, etc....they do sell for pennies on the dollar with nothing ever marked more than a few dollars per item. I have only been by once, but co-workers show up regularly with new folding knives, money clips, and whatever else the TSA felt like liberating from the public.
