Greetings Lowworm!

Great pic. I didn't even know they made those. I need one now too. I am willing to pay extra to Peter if he is willing to make them. Titanium would be my first choice in metal.

Stay sharp!

Maybe if you all are veeeeeeerry good......and if I ever get time I'll look into doing a run of these. I really need to invest in a Tapmatic for those threaded holes.

Okay, this may be a ignorant question--and it won't be my first one--but I was curious about all the holes. They look marvelous, but does their presence compromise the strength of the tool, or do you compensate for them by using a different thickness, material, etc.? Should I just leave now? :bolt:

Gadget Guy
05-06-2006, 10:33 AM
Peter, I think Deaths Head should pay extra for all of us! My first choice would be steel, as I think the titanium would be way too light with the holes. How much is the tap gizmo? Maybe you could start a fund because you know we are all going to want one. As far as function goes, I think it will just be a lighter version of the Prybaby with a fantastic look! Of course if you do make a titanium version I will want one too!! :knuppel2:

Actually, if you did that, my bank account would go into cardiac arrest. Maybe just close down your shop, Peter, and save yourself the stress of meeting the avalanche of wish lists that come your way every time someone posts a new pic of your stuff. :uglystupid2:

Peter, excuse my ignorance but what dose a Tapmatic do? :help: will one fit on my key ring and is it made of titanium ;D

Peter Atwood
05-07-2006, 07:24 PM
A Tapmatic is a thread tapping accessory that attaches to a mill or drill press. They work very well for quickly tapping holes without breaking delicate taps. There are several makers of these devices but Tapmatic seems to be the industry leader. I haven't personally tried one but I hear that they are just wonderful to use.

Gadget Guy

09-16-2006, 03:16 PM
Heat treated S30V will be SIGNIFICANTLY harder to drill than a key. You'll need a cobalt drill bit and a SLOW drill. If you got too fast and overheat, it can actually harden the area you are trying to drill. You need to be careful, as the bits are brittle. Clamp your material to be drilled down very tight. WEAR EYE PROTECTION!

You MIGHT get a hole or two from a new Ti coated bit, but don't expect much.

Holes are typically drilled in the steel before the heat treat, in the annealed state.

He made at least 2, cause I have one as well. Also, I have a couple that have been pimped (by Bill Yester) to have a Cucchiara-esque FIZZ treatment. They turned out really cool.

I'll get some pics in the next day or so.

Here you go:

At 26 grams each they are damn near weightless in your hand yet still quite strong. I beat the crap out of one prying on a wooden pallet with no ill effects and with the corner of the forks easily backed out a sheetrock screw in my bench with no deformation. So I'd say they're good to go. ;)

I received mine today- and it's even better than expected. This is actually my first PryBaby (although I have a few other Atwood goodies) and I'm very happy I waited for this one!

From the photos it looked like there's only about three or four sizes of holes in the swiss cheese. In actuality, there are at least 6 or 7 different sized graduated holes which makes a much nice effect- and they're all countersinked! And like Dino said, the bead blasted finish is the perfect compliment- not as shiny as it appears in the photos. Pictures really don't do it justice- the workmanship is flawless.

If anyone is on the fence over these- do not hesitate! Grab one while they're in stock! O0

loveit
03-30-2007, 09:44 PM
I started with a scotch-brite pad type thing on my Dremel. After that I used a little metal polish (MAAS available at most hardware stores). I spread the polish first on the cloth to even it out.

I read somewhere that if you dont mix epoxy with the glow powder it can still be removed.
