View Full Version : Spy capsules?

I'm looking for a capsule to carry several rolled bills (if I leave emergency cash in my wallet it gets spent).* So far, the only aluminum capsule I've found is this one (http://www.survivalkeychain.com/spycapsules.asp), but it's 5/8" diameter.* Anybody know of one that is about the length and diameter of a Maglite AAAmini flashlight?

If wood is acceptable, Walmart carries some wooden pin holders in the sewing section that are the probably the perfect size. About 1/4" dia & 1.5-1.75" long. I'd like to have something that size in metal. Te top for the wooden one just slides on, though, so it's not real suitable for pocket carry.

I removed the head from an old Maglite Solitaire (1AAA), replaced it with a rubber cap, and use the flashlight body as a pill container, as shown here:

Hey, a good use for that old Mini-M@g AAA I have somewhere! Now I just need to find it and a cap of the appropriate size.

Why not just roll a $50.00 bill around a AAA battery, and put it in the light? Light still works, and you have the cash stashed. This is what I did with my Fenix L1P.

stainless steel so they will hold iodine water pure tablets fine.

None of the capsules on these links are the size I want. Some are pretty impressive and get my Titanium lust going, but they are not what I had in mind.
Bravo 25's trick of wrapping bills around a AAA battery in my L1P is a neat idea, but I want to keep the battery capacity of a AA battery, and a single bill (doubled over and rolled around the battery) will not fit with a AA battery.
The used mini-maglite idea is also cool, but not long-term enough for my purposes. Maybe the next time I get access to a lathe I'll core out my mini and screw the head back on.
The Trekker offered by Berkeley Point will carry up to 2 CR123 3V Lithium Primary Cells. It should be able to carry 1 AA cell, several bills, and likely more.

What's the diameter of a Maglight? The Sunshine Products (http://www.sunshineproductsusa.com/Large-Diameter-7-8-p-1-c-27.html) site mentioned earlier has a variety of sizes. My link is to 7/8" and a variety of lengths.

I hope it stays in this time.

Those prices on jazebra are outrageous. I bought an all stainless container exactly like the one they're selling for $23 at Walgreen's for less than $10.

Have a look on Google for a product called a "Nutkase". Its a very well made, egg-sized capsule intended to carry your lock-nut for the lockable wheel-nuts on your alloy wheels! (Car crime is rife in Manchester!)
I have three of 'em. One is often carried on my keys with a basic Survival kit in it, One is on the outside of my EDC bag (Maxpedition Devildog) with meds in it (Immodium, Piriton & Painkillers) & the other ones a spare at the mo.
They have a very long screw thread on them so youre less likely to have the thing separate on you (as happens with some capsules) & they are very, very toughly made.
When I get my camera back off my Gal, I'll take some pics of my Nutkases. (Nutkases for EDCases!)

I found these. They are entirely made of titanium. I like the way it looks. Very industrial or technical looking.

Hi guys,
An outdoor chain in the Netherlands called "Bever" is selling a nice titanium spy capsule for around $37 and that get you an 3.5" long and around 3/4" diameter Titanium capsule, not to bad when I look at the titanium capsule prices on the posted site.
By the way the capsule is "produced" by Nordisk.
Best Scouting wishes from Holland,

I like the stuff on Sunshineproducts, but would rather custom make it myself. Unfortunately, I no longer have access to a lathe. Anybody got a lathe in the San Francisco Bay Area that they are willing to let me spend time on?

I have the Pill Pod I on both my keyrings with a twenty in each. This is the link to locate them. They are stainless steel and o-ring sealed and aren't heavy on the rings. They work out quite well.

I found some capsules today at a placed called Workshop Tools (http://www.workshoptools.com/) in Sevierville, TN (next to Smoky Mountain Knife Works, which just doubled in size!).

Top left is their Small Pill Box (steel, #99990064A), $2.99.* Since it has the male threads on the body, an 123A cell (shown) will fit inside (the white sleeve would need to be removed, but they are simply pressed in)* Top right is a steel capsule I bought from Walgreens a year or so ago for about $5.* With the male threads on the cap, a 123 won't fit inside it.* Construction of both is comparable - both have o-rings.
In the middle is the inner capsule (left) of the outer Colored Pill Holder (aluminum, #9990020A), $0.99.* Below it is a steel holder (same part # and price).* The interior capsule is hard plastic with a metal lid.* Both versions have o-rings.* That's a $5 bill fold lengthwise in thrids and rolled up.* It's a perfect fit for a single bill.
While I really like top quality products like the clips and such from Berkeley Point, the functional quality of these capsule is nearly as good, but at a great price.

Here's what I carry. Its a "water proof match holder" from walmart (camping section) that also has a flint in the bottom. I have one for each day of the week to keep meds in. It floats and does keep moisture out because some of the meds I take are very moisture sensitive and at .78 ea they don't cost a fortune

For a really small capsule, try your petshop.
They have ID-capsules for ,well pets.
Here, they have both steel and plastic ones for aroung 2-5 bucks

I hate to dredge up this one from so long ago, but I am new here and this one caught my eye as I was going through the old stuff. While it's not exactly a "spy capsule", my keychain does a pretty good job of storage at a cheap price...I bought one of the "ninja throwing spike" baton keychains and threw away the silly little nails. Depending on what country I am traveling in, I can carry 4 to 6 bills inside. I wrap the bills around the tiny ferro rod from hood's woods. That goes in the bottom of the baton. In the top half I put 2 of the tinder tabs from a spark-lite, several feet of braided kevlar fishing line (forget the test), and a needle. For carry, the baton gets stuck in my waistband and keys and other accessories hang outside. I hope all that makes sense. Oh yeah, there is the added benefit of being able to use the mini baton as a self defense tool.

The first shot shows it all closed up, the second is everything spread out. The ferro rod and money slide down further into the bottom of the baton. I also mis-spoke earlier, since I am back in the states and not carrying any wide bills I am able to fit 3, not 2, tinder tabs in there. It is nothing fancy, but it does a pretty good job.

We carry a number of spy capsules at www.EDCdepot.com. The small capsule will hold a $20 bill but you have to roll it tightly. We give a small spy capsule away with each order. The large capsule will definitely hold a few bills, as will the spy capsule with compass. The only one that will not hold a rolled up $20 is the survival whistle spy capsule. It is better suited for storing asprin or water purification tablets.
Spy Capsules $3-$4.50 they are listed under Survival Gear

I bought a SAK from EDCdepot.com and they threw in a Spy Capsule. It's .55"/14mm dia X 1.89"/48mm O.A.L and you can fold/roll a US bill to easily fit. (Maybe 2 with more patience than I have.) It won't fit an N cell, much less a CR2 :( It's type II anodized and from China, but fairly well made.

Just a heads up, I don't know wether or not you know this, but the "flint" on there is terrible. I would not depend on it AT ALL if I needed fire. Just so that you know.

I just received a large spy capsule with compass (https://edcdepot.com/merchantmanager/product_info.php?cPath=4&products_id=90&mmsid=a16a0c2777e68172213ea6f5384db8e7) (and some other cool stuff) from EDC Depot (http://www.edcdepot.com) -- it's really well-made and the compass works, too! Now I just need to decide what to put in it... :whee:
