The Wal-Marts around this area used to have them and I got this one from there. I got one for my wife and a couple more from SMKW when they had them on sale for about $3/ea. I just checked SMKW's site and they don't have them in stock anymore.

I bought it from a company called Keyback (http://www.keyback.com/), I've got both the keyfob and a sticker for my cellphone from them, yearly cost about $12 per fob. Reward for delivering lost keys is approx $8. Unfortunaly they only operate in Scandinavia but as Simbad says there's a lot of companies that deliver this service.

Hi Gadget Guy! I use stuffbak.com (http://stuffbak), which is pretty much the same idea, except instead of returning to the police they return it to the local UPS store for their predetermined reward! I keep one on my key ring, one sticker on my car remote, & one sticker in my wallet. And just like Redhed said, knock on wood I never had to put it to use.

Hi guys,
Here's a keychain setup that I use:
http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~henskens/Bagheera-key-chain-extended-small.jpg
I have different items grouped together and can with the attached very sturdy little "clasp"* attach it to the base setup or leave it.
I sold the Arc AAA in its kydex sheath from Eric Noeldchen and now use a Fenix L0P and also stopped using the small UV LED torch on the extreme right (torpedo like).
The small blue "spy capsule" hold 5 200 mg asperin tablets.
The orange whistle is an ACME Tornado of which I cut down the sides making it a 3/8" high easy to pack super loud whistle.
Missing is my original brass Spark-Lite that I received from its inventor Oak Norton himself :),* I silver soldered a small streamlined ëye" to it with a small split ring and this makes key-chain carry easy.
Also missing is the UtilityKey that I traded with my good friend Dajak, it's tiny but after sharpening the "blade" has a mean edge.
Best Scouting wishes from Holland,
Bagheera

I don't keep the key on the ring.
I got this ring at a local Ace, but I am not happy with it. On two occasions, when trying to remove on item, all the items slid off into the dirt. I have gone back to a series of small split rings.

05-09-2006, 07:21 PM
Hey Ryan,
I love those turbine blades! I have a personal collection of about 50 different types and about 500 or more total blades. I started collecting them about three years ago on Ebay. The prices have since gone through the roof! I have the blade that you are looking for, so just email me your address and I will send it to you at no chagre. I rounded off the edges for easier pocket carry, but it's still a very nice EDC and the price is right... ;D
Whats a titanium turbine blade and why do you carry it? I looked on ebay and didnt find anything.
Gadget Guy
05-09-2006, 11:55 PM
Hi Foxy! A turbine blade is used in a jet engine and they make them in both titanium and steel. The smaller ones are nice for a unique item for your keychain. The serve no real purpose other than that. Search Ebay under "Turbine Blade" and you will find them. The titanium ones only come up for auction every once in awhile. I hope that helps... ;D

First of all, sorry fot the poor quality picture, taken with a cell phone.
Second, I must say that I put toghether this simple utility key chain only after lingering around this forum for some time. I did previously own and use one of the items included, but only found about the others here. So, thanks everybody!
Third, this is a very simple setup, but a very balanced one, I believe. It is made up of:
Leatherman Squirt P4
Prybaby XL (thanks Peter Atwood and forum!)
Arc-P AAA (thanks forum!)
Small cord fob (thanks "whatshisname" for teaching it here!)
Secondary to the utility key chain, there are two others used for... keys.
Also on the pictures are my Benchmade/Emerson CQC-7, Fisher Space Pen, Citizen ProMaster Aqualand I, and Moleskine notebook.

Deaths Head is correct, the knife is a Benchmite II black coated and what looks like a clip is the lever to lock/unlock the blade, a very particular feature on this model because you need to push that lever to open and close the knife.

Thanks. The Emerson is my oldest folder (bought it at a BX in '96, I believe), and is my pocket mainstay. The Space Pen is also quite worn out, but I too like it that way.
Hopefully, the util key ring will see as much use, which is a good sign. I've had the Squirt for a year, used it abundantly, and no signs of wear it. Mighty good finish on that one...

I think I may order one too, I have a Kydex holder for a mini bic, but's a little bulkier than I'd like. Can you easily remove the lighter? And is it possible to insert it with the holder protecting the flint/mechanism?

It's easy enough to remove the lighter, but I tend to use it while it's in the holder, I just checked and it's possible to insert the lighter so the holder's protecting the flint etc., but I can see it shortening the lighters life span since the rubber is rather tight and removing it will probably pull at the button and the metal bit a little.

Well, since I have the Booger on my keychain I don´t feel "naked" anymore if I don´t carry any kind of knife with me, here in Spain you´re not allowed to carry any pointing knife whatever the size is, so a simple Leatherman it can be confiscated, then you can go to pick it up at the police station 24 hours later after paying a fine. This is a bit off topic but* funny because I have been stopped by the police last winter at 6am. with a .12 gauge gun for hunting and a box of 50 magnum ammo. behind the seat of my truck (with my h. license of course) and they only said "handle it with care and good hunting"*

I need a Victorinox holster. Love to have one for my Executive and MiniChamp. Know where I might find them?
Try www.swissknivesexpress.com - I think that's where I got mine. It's an OEM Voctorinox accessory - I bought a couple and have a spare stored in some stuff at home so let me know if you need the model number to find it. Be advised it's vinyl/pleather lined with ballistic nylon. Wasn't a deal breaker for me, although I was hoping (in a thickly accented Italian accent) "it's a gonna be leather" when I purchased them.

Out of curiosity, how much does the pocketwrench weigh?
1.5 oz. Thinner than a prybaby, but just as effective for prying. The end opposite the wrench end is designed for prying. Very handy - I use mine a lot.

Are you asking what is a turbine blade? They are the blades that go in a jet engine. There are all types of sizes and most are made of titanium. I put the small ones on a keychain and they look great! I have a collection of about 50 different types. I will try and post a pictures tomorrow. I hope that helps?

Damn it, now we're going to have to always leave at least one person in the house to guard all the stuff! For example: :armor: + :batman: + :wolverine: + :uglystupid2: + >:D + :police: + :judge: =* :bolt: or :spank: and :stretcher:
Either that, or we embrace the Buddhist philosophy that divesting ourselves of worldly possessions (or just having them all stolen) will liberate our souls and send us on the path to enlightenment.* :yoga:

Bumpkeys are different for each lock type, you just need a "normal" key for the lock cut to the deepest position for each pin. It's easy to do at the locksmith shop.
I guess the dog is the last defense point now :-)

With great power comes great responsibility. Thanks for looking out for us greenLED (and all you other moderators)!
Am I correct in assuming that POSESSION of a bumpkey is legal and that only UNLAWFUL USE of the key will result in prosecution? Or will asking a locksmith to make you one of these send up red flags at the local police station?

They are reusable, nothing happens to the bumpkey and unless you bump too hard nothing happens to the lock, so it looks as if you opened with a normal key.

Finally got my gear together,
Atwood whsitle
Atwood mini-prybaby
Photon Freedom, green NV
Ti pillcrusher, home-made
House keys
Paracord lanyard with ti ferrules
Berkeley clips and rings
I've found the scewdriver on the mini-pry a little difficult to use when it's attached to anything, and it fits perfectly onto a BP mini-clip. I've also polished it as the bead-blast finish was steadily eating my brass keys!
Doubt the set up will stay this way for long though!

- Mini Swiss champ with toothpick and berkley clip
- Tweezers (to compensate the SAK with toothpick)
- Tombow XL pen with berkley clip
- Some duct tape in the paracord just in case I need it
On the "keys" keychain:
- Keys (of course)
- Green tritium glowring

After watching that video you posted, luigi, it reminds me of an old saying my dad told me on a couple of occasions:
Son, a lock is made to keep an honest man honest. Otherwise, it's only there to slow the criminals down. If the bad guys want your stuff they will figure out a way to take it.
Uncle Z,
Yeah, I like that keychain. Simple. I suspect that most here started that way, add way too much before realizing the difficulty of carrying it all, and gravitate to a simpler setup as a compromise between the minimalist and the extreme. The cycle occurs a few times a year for me.

Sweet toys!
Here's a picture of my key chain. Latest addition is the stripped twisty that replaced the old split ring. Stuff attached includes keys, a SOG Crossgrip multitool, a LED light from Everest (both momentary/constant on) and an aluminium tube with the Geocaching logo. These things are designed for beeing used as mini caches but since they're waterproof and airtight I use mine to store anti-snakebite medicine for my dogs.
This setup is great but I still have some plans. First of all, I'm thinking of attaching all the keys to a split ring fitted carabine so that I can remove this from the twisty when I need to use a key. The reason for this is the fact that I'm adding more stuff to the twisty which makes it a bit bulky to use a normal key, especially when it comes to smaller locks like the cable lock on my bike. Stuff I plan to add includes a small compass and a small prying tool. I also need to replace the LED light, it works great but has blue light and I'd prefer white.

Not sure what a travel bug is, I think you're referring to the pill fob. What I have on there are the Fenix e0, house key, tailgate key, Swiss-tech Utili-key, titanium bottle opener, dog tag, couple of store tags, Sears 4-way screwderiver, SAK Signature Lite, black aluminum pill fob with 7 aspirin, truck key, and type I paracord lanyard with a swivel clip and screwgate.

Deaths Head was nice enough to send me some more of those Ti rings (huge thanks to DH!!), so my key chain is finally "finished"!!! (Are they ever really finished?)
They call it a keychain for a reason - I used a 5" length of titanium curb link chain, cut titanium rings and Berkley clips to make it. Hanging off of it are the keys, a glow ring, an Arc-P, Atwood whistle, oil vial, and a damasteel Booger.

Stormdrane: Yup, riprater is absolutely correct about the TB's, a geocaching thing. However, I was referring to the dog tag like thing with what looks like the end of a bar code in the middle of the picture. Might be a pill fob, might be a store tag of some kind. A Travel Bug looks very much like a dog tag aswell. :)

My keychain hasn't changed much (see cost of EDC thread- Keys, Ti bottle opener, Victorinox Signature II, Arc AAA-P), but the way I carry it has. I got one of these:
http://www.tadgear.com/x-treme%20gear/civilian_labs_gear_keeper.htm
and I love it! Not sure if this has been talked about in other threads (probably somewhere), but regardless, I have the non-extending end clipped to a carabiner which is clipped to my belt loop. The other end is clipped to a "twisty" which holds my keys. This set up keeps the keychain aligned in the (left) pocket so there is room for my cell phone, and of course prevents loss. The cord retracts and extends smoothly and it goes far enough out that I never have to detatch the keys to use them. The unit is also light and unobtrusive, and I actually think it looks rather cstylish even though it's visible outside of the pocket. I'm actually thinking of getting another one for the other side to attatch my tactical wallet when it arrives. I'll try to take a pic of the setup when I have a chance.

You won't regret it, provided you wear the kind of pants that have belt loops somewhat near the pockets and have a spare smallish carabiner lying around (the clips on the reel are too small to clip on belt loops directly). You could also possibly clip the unit and keys to a purse if the whole pants thing didn't work- I'm not up on women's clothing too much these days ;), but these things are very versatile. They are a bit expensive for what they are, but seem very well designed and well made. I had the fortune of walking over and visiting Tad Gear directly so I saved on shipping and got to handle the merchandise in person- this was something of an "impulse buy" but I'm definately glad I sprung for it so far. Let me know what you think and how you use it if you get one.

I found my key chain at the feed store soon after I found my hay buddy.* It is a miniature loose-ring snaffle bit.* I think I paid less that $3 for it, and it has worn like iron.* Don't think I'll be replacing it anytime soon.* It fits fine in my jeans pockets and loses itself regularly in the depths of the unknown in my purse. On one ring are an SS Jester, my SpeedPass, Sliver Grippers, Mini Prybaby, and a key to what I have no idea but I don't dare get rid of it 'cause then I'll need it. The other ring has truck and house keys, SE Ladybug, Atwood whistle with lapis, and a Photon Micro. I usually have a knife--okay, fine--two knives in my pocket...and even more in my aforementioned purse... ;D

Living in an urban setting, I think having a few extra 20's is about the most important thing I can do. Besides the money, I also have light, fire, knife, scissors, tweezers, toothpick, whistle, can opener, and kevlar fishing line. This one came from knifezilla.com There are cheaper ones out there, but at the time I was ordering some other stuff from knifezilla. It is sold as a "ninja" keychain with a set of 4 "throwing spikes"...so once you toss out the silly little nails, oh sorry...the "deadly ninja throwing spikes"...you have a useful storage keychain MUCH cheaper than some other options. I can't tell you if it is water proof or not, because I have never had it get soaked in the 3 years I have been carrying it.

I'm now in a minimalist mood, so my keychain is very light. No long ago, I could barely store it in my pocket, so I thank it was time to evolve :
http://img479.imageshack.us/img479/6770/keyholdertk6.jpg
I found what were my needs, and I keep it bare and simple. I deported some flat objects (like a steel mirror, my flat rosary or a Leupold lens) to my wallet, and the tinbox (with medecine and some little tools) I carry is no longer on the keychain (because it's noisy).
So there is no more than :
- a LRI Photon 3 red covert for emergency illumination. It's of course not that powerful, but since I'm usually carry a bright flashlight, it was more than sufficient. I like the fact that the led is protected, I really trust this little illumination device ;
- a Bic mini J5. I don't smoke, but you never know when you should need to start a fire. It's not a Zippo, but I never have a trouble with these lighters. The ring goes through the ventilation holes ;
- my keys. Since my driver hold the keys of the car, I don't need to carry them. They got their own keychain ;
- a cheap aluminum carabiner. I found the only tool I need to quickly extract from the keychain was the knife. So it's alone, and directly fixed on the carabiner ;
- a Victorinox Signature. It's like a Classic, but with a small space pen in the handle. It's not bad, but the capacity of the pen seems ridiculous to me. I can't remember having wrote more than two pages with it, and now it's dry. But the knife is enough for most urban tasks ;
- last but not least, a small whistle. It's more a safety tool, like the lighter. But I found it handy when I had to catch attention of taxis, since the city is very noisy.
Since that when I quit my home, I can't forget the keys, I'm never devoided of minimal tools. That's the goal of this keychain, and I'm quite happy with it.

Main firearm w/extra mag or speedloader
back up firearm
impact weapon

cuffs
torch
keys
knife
sony ic recorder
but I am a huge pack rat that still has most EDC items I have ever owned starting at about 5 years old.

Car key rings all have just a Photon freedom and alarm fob as necessary
Main key ring apart from keys.
Mini first aid fob has mouth 2 mouth barrier, surgical gloves, immodium, motillium and ibuprofen.
Fenex E1 (upgraded from an Arc aaa)
Key chain lock pick pro
Rambler SAK (downgraded from a Mini champ)
Leatherman squirt P4 (upgraded from a Gerber Clutch)
and an Atwood Area 51 Keyton
I think I am happy for now.

alwilliam: Yeah, nice set of toys. Love that nasty cat of yours :D
Anyway, I added a few things to mine. Nothing patricularly fancy though but I switched from a blue LED-light to a white (no idea why I bought a blue from the start) and I added the COPY-tag of my latest Travel Bug Dog Tag just for the looks. Now I really just miss a good prying tool, then I've pretty much covered all of the bases I wish to cover with my keychain. :)

I carry the same Stanley 3 foot Powerlock tape measure (model 39-130) in a pants pocket. I looked for one in several stores until I found them at Ace Hardware. Home Depot sells a noname small locking tape measure, but the lock was unreliable on all the ones I tried in the store. The Stanley lock works well.

That's not $20 for the titanium marlin spike. It's $20 over the cost of the stainless steel marlin spike and you only get the titanium version not both of them.

DH ... yeah I tried that too. She just said no one had ever asked for just the spike since it has to be retrofitted onto the knife in the shop (Spike + Retro $30).* She followed with that she had a very limited supply of them. Damn they look perfect for the chain too.

I find it pretty helpful for those times I dont want to pry with a knife blade. The pointy end is a little sharp for pocket carry, but do-able. I took the cord wrap off to slim it down.
The 2 keyring thing works pretty well. Nice having just keys on one of them to use in the car, etc.

If you look at Leatherman's site and click on the Juice (on the "Tools" page), a table is shown with the features of the Juice models, including the two common Squirt models. Also, if you hover over the Juice on the "Tools" page, the picture changes to read "A little Juice". So apparently the Squirt is part of the Juice line.

The G-Fob was something we started a couple years ago, we only made a hand full of them. We wanted something simple that could be used for self defense, if need be. We just got real busy with some other stuff and it kind of fell by the way side. We can pick that project back up, if you guys want some.

Well, being inspired by JimH's "Survivorman Keychain" thread, I came up with my own survival keychain. However, with the final addition of my spy capsule I have realized that it's just too darn much stuff to carry and I've reverted back to my old keychain setup. Here's some pics of what it looked like:
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/8357/dsc06104el3.th.jpg (http://img301.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc06104el3.jpg)
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/4629/dsc06107vc6.th.jpg (http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc06107vc6.jpg)
From carabiner clockwise: truck key, house key, spy capsule (containing 10mm compass and room for other stuff), SAK Classic, ARC AAA Original, Southern Specialties Folding Lockpick, Inka pen, BSA FireSteel, Aluminum whistle (from Singapore thru CPF), home made lanyard with 8' of gutted 550 paracord terminated with a pop-lock cord lock (as opposed to melting ends).
I really like this idea and I intend to keep the survival related items, but I plan on including them in an EDC bag of some sort that I have yet to determine.

Yep, Jim, my PicoPen is um, very cozy with my other stuff... :-*
If I were to just sit there and watch it mate, I'd be a little put out, but for the most part I don't notice its promiscuity in practical use, since it's so small it just disappears on my keychain. I love that it can use standard multipen refills and the quick access (just pull and pop) is a plus to me.

I have no idea. I actually just recetnly experimented with it again after doing a split-ring monstrosity for a while.
Now I am using the twisties, I like how easily I can split things up to different pockets, and keep them in "chinks, but the key fob was nice for removing one tool at a time. It was better for cargo-poant carry. 5 days a week I am in a suit, though.

This is my usual keychain i bring with me for emergency's that might happen. Not actually EDC but i do bring it along sometimes. Its definately handy
Starting from the whistle clockwise, i have a Fenix E1, Cut down Mini bic, swisstech 8 in 1 tool, and a bison capsule with 3 strike anywhere matches, 2 quiklite tinders and a $20 bill with some personal info wrapped around it
The multitool(swisstech) is a bit heavy though. I probably need to get something lighter, especially since i don't need the pliers.
