For those who - like me - can't run to a PryBaby yet:

How many times have you needed to snug a nut, pop a paint can top, tighten
a slotted screw, or take a quick measurement, but it just didn¹t seem to be worth the trip to that big old toolbox in the shop! Put a Pocketwrench II in your wallet, and you’ll be fixing things that aren’t even broken yet just to show off (it’s in the DIY’ers Creed).

Only 4" long, 1" wide, and 1/8" thick, the Pocketwrench II handles hex nuts from 3/16" to 11/16" (even metric sizes) using its unique serrated gripping edge. The bodie’s 1/4" hex opening accepts any 1/4" hex power bit, so you can easily drive virtually any style screw. The end is tapered for slotted screws, opens paint cans without damaging the rim. The laser engraved body is laser has 2" and 5 cm scales for a quick measurements. Made in USA of 420 Stainless Steel.

$8.95

I keep one in my Maxpedition Proteus and another with my cycling kit.

I have one thats seen some use, but I've never really warmed up to it enough to make it an EDC item. It's a very well made tool.

The best place for me to carry a Pocket Wrench II is on a keyring. I personally cannot stand having keys in my pockets. I work in a restaurant and when you have to lean on counters to reach things any hard items in your front pockets just dig into your thighs. What's even worse is to round a corner and catch keys in your pocket on a piece of equipement they drag and dig at the same time.

Now with all that said, I use the Pocket Wrench as a key fob. I slid the wrench between my pants waistband and my belt so my keys hang from my belt. Just pull up and my keys are out in just a second.

This looks like a really useful tool. Can it also be pressed into duty as a bottle opener? The website doesn't mention that, but it looks like ... just maybe ..., it could be pressed into opener duty ???

It will work as a bottle opener, but it is a little tricky.

The prybar end works great as a prybar and also for a screwdriver for all those big screws that you are supposed to use a coin to turn. I never have a coin, but I always have my Pocketwrench. It sits right next to my Swis Tool in the same case.

Does anyone here EDC one of these?

http://www.mcfeelys.com/product.asp?pid=PW-1000

I am thinking about getting one to try out. For those of you who have used them, do you like them? Are they strong enough for normal every day prying activities? Would you trust one in an emergency? Ideally, I'd like to try out one of Mr. Atwoods prybars, but unfortunately, $80 is a bit out of my range for an item with such a narrow purpose right now.

Thanks for any input on this little tool.

Here is a thread discussing the Pocketwrench II: http://edcforums.com/index.php?topic=323.0
IMO, it's a pretty good tool. It's well made. It's a little large for me.

BTW, a Standard PryBaby in S30V is not $80, it's $35 and shipping. Save your money, the PryBaby is worth it. O0

Thanks for the response, I will check out that thread. And as for the cost of the prybar, I meant his actual prybar, I think he calls it the Bug Out Bar. I am looking for something a bit bigger than the Prybaby, and the Bug Out Bar seems to be perfect. That, as far as I remember, is $80.

I bought my original pocketwrench sometime in the 1980's. It's been used to open paint cans over the years and that's pretty much all I used it for. It doesn't have the measurement graduations like the pocketwrench II, but other than that I think it's the same. I believe I bought it at Sears, same place I got the 4-Way Pocket Screwdriver which was on my keychain all thru high school. Someone has a couple of the pocketwrench II's on ebay for less than eight dollars shipped(well, I just bought one of them so there's one left now ;) ).

Here is another version of the Pocketwrench. It is called the Palm Pal. Looks sturdy, but much bulkier than the pocketwrench.

I had a Palm Pal but traded it away because it was so HEAVY.

How much heavier is the Palm Pal compared to the Pocketwrench? Would you say 2 or 3 times as much?

I feels like it's twice as heavy. It's also much bulkier. The Palm Pal won't pry, screw or measure, either.

I just weighed my pocketwrench II, it comes in at 1.6 ounces, so the Palm Pal weighs almost 4 times as much at 6 ounces.

There ya go. 4 times the weight. 1/4th the utility.

I just wanted to mention that the Pocketwrench II is a great tool for the money, but it's no Prybaby! The quality of Peter's work is fantastic and I think we sometimes forget that Prybaby's are hand made items. I just purchased a Pocketwrench II and the detail quality is not there. My point is, if you are thinking of buying a Pocketwrench II as a alternative to the Prybaby, then I would recommend that you save your $$ for a Prybaby!* :lol

Ain't it the truth. BUT, for a guy on a budget, who may need the wrench or a very small ruler, it's not bad.

That original Pocketwrench of Stormdrane's has a much cleaner look than the Pocketwrench II. I tried to track one down, but no luck so far.

The Palm Pal looks great, but it has a major drawback: No screwdriver function, therefore no prybar function. It does look great, though.
