Hello everyone! First I'd like to say I am glad to have found a group of individuals like-minded as myself in this forum. Anyone else I know could care less about EDC tools, and they just think I'm just too crazy anyway because of my bat utility belt. That's ok by me, they're only people, and I don't need them. :tickedoff: All I need are my EDC tools!
I am flashlight user, a knife lover, and more recently a re-born wristwatch user. I haven't worn a wristwatch in the past 10 years, since becoming a pager and cellular phone user. Since pagers and phones can keep time, atomic time--in most cases, I felt there was no longer a need to be wearing a wristwatch. If I wanted to know the time and date, I'd simply open up the ballistic nylon/velcro pouch on my belt and check my phone.
I've come to learn that checking the time in this manner, and frequently, is not really '******* friendly'. Having to draw from the belt, while making the noise of ripping velcro; draws too much undue attention to the sharps, lights, and chemical spray also hanging from my belt. So last week I broke down and bought a watch, a Seiko SGG711.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e323/ghostbear_23/EDC/seiko-sgg711_01.jpg
I thought it might be a drag having to wear a dead weight on the wrist again, but after a week--I now think its liberating. I love the fact that I can forget this EDC item is even on me. I can even go in the shower with it. And best of all, I now only have to reach for my cellphone when it rings--which is never, because I have no friends.
I'm not completely happy with my new watch, though. The Chinese made titanium band makes a jingling sound whenever I move. I don't like having to charge the glow paint before it can glow. When I look down at my wrist, in addition to the time--I'd like to see "Saturday April 15, 2006" in plain English. My current watch only shows "Sat 15". I guess I've become too spoiled from having all that information available on LCD screens of digital watches and cellphones. No, I don't want to go back to digital watches. I'm actually starting to like this analog thing.
****************************************
So my question is this:
Does anyone know of a titanium watch and band, that has a quartz movement, analog face, preferably Arabic numerals, either tritium or electro-luminescent, and a more comprehensive but simple calendar? I'm not wealthy. So, the more inexpensive--the better. Less than $500 would be ideal. Anyone?
Thanks

A Citizen Skyhawk in ti* is an ana-digi watch which should give you what you want and more.
Have a look* around the net and then post back on what you think and we'll take it from there :)

Alright, I'd like the same information, but want to add: How a similar watch but with a crystal that won't scratch easily? I play havoc with the crystals of my watches.

If you want a crystal that isn't going to scratch then you ultimately need a sapphire crystal. I'm not sure what crystal is in the Citizen -- I think it's mineral which is still pretty tough, but can't compete with sapphire.
Certina used to make an ana-digital watch that had pretty much all the functions requested, with sapphire crystal, but it might just be outside the budget request. The watch is basically a clone of the Breitling Arerospace. Unfortunately, I can't see that watch on the Certina website anymore. It may be worth finding their official website and emailing them if interested.
I'll have a think and see if I can think of any other suitable candidates.

Sorry, I've taken so long to get back . Thank you for your replies. :)
Jon,
The watch band says "TITANIUM-Z BAND CHINA". And that's probably why it was so affordable.
Sunnie,
Thanks for the Citizen Skyhawk recommendation. I looked at it on their website. Boy, that is one busy looking piece. No doubt, it's very well made. The slide-rule bezel makes it look really busy and I know I'd never use it. It also has a chronograph, another item that isn't as important to me as a calendar. The majority of the watches I've looked at on the net have a prominent chronograph/tachymeter and minimal of a calandar. Or if they do have decent calandar, they also put lunar phase too--which I really don't need. Also, I prefer all analog readout.
I do agree with you, Cosine. A saphire crystal is a must. Scratched glass can make a perfectly good watch look trashy.
Here are some pics that I've grabbed while looking around. None of them seem 'perfect' to me, but they are getting closer to what I am looking for. Nevermind how much some of them cost, this is only for ideas. Also, most of what I've seen have dial and hand indicators for calandars. I'd prefer the 'rolling marquee' type, --they're just faster to read. I get the feeling, there's going to be very few affordable choices. (<$500)

Very affordable--and looks like it, too. It's got month, day of week, and day #. But no year indicator.

Probably costs as much as a midsize luxury sedan. Pretty and clean. It does bother me that it doesn't have Arabic numerals at every hour mark. Has a calander with a YEAR INDICATOR! I'll take one without the lunar phase indicator if it'll save $25,000.

Another expensive one. Very clean and legible. But it's missing a year indicator. Don't need the lunar phase. I wonder if it's got indiglo?
Thanks for looking. And I look forward to hearing more of your suggestions.

Well, the Patek and the IWC are both gorgeous but very very expensive. They're also automatics, not quartz.
The Casio seems the way to go. Can you sacrifice the year? One thing on it: the date is not as legible as it might be, IMHO.
An ana-digital watch with the time in analogue form, and the day, month and date in digital form might be worth seeking out, if a simple enough form can be found. Calendars always seem to work better (effortlessly) in digital form, whereas the time readout works best in analogue.

Hi Ghostbear-
You'll definitely want to visit TimeZone (http://www.TimeZone.com) during the course of your watch search.* Just so you know, you could purchase several luxury cars with the IWC and Patek Philippe watches you pictured.* Note that the IWC has the unique minute repeater functionality indicated by the slide along the left side of the case.

Hi Ghostbear-
As an aside, read the "Are watches going bye-bye" thread to see the harm in wearing a watch in the shower.* Same rules apply to quartz watches as automatics...except this time the harmful corrosion is going after circuitry rather than a miniature machine.

Check out the Oceanus line of watches. They are made by casio and Casio has similar watches with less features for much less dough if you don't need the Ti or the backlight or the sapphire crystal.
Titanium, Solar, Atomic, Saphire, Led light, etc

I don't own one, but have heard good things about Tissot watches. The T-Touch appears to meet your requirements with the addition of extra functions.

Added *** I just reread the posts and was initially confused. You may not like it as it is both analog and digital.

I've got the titanium T-touch... it seems to fit his requirements except for the arabic numerals and the tritium/el. the hands and "boxes" (where the numbers would be) are all regular glow stuff
