I live in a wild part of Britain (the Isle of Skye), so my EDC is tilted towards survival.
The picture below shows a selection of items I might carry. I mix & match depending on what I'm up to. Not all of the items are carried simultaneously.
Other kit carried in the Proteus might include an orange nylon survival bag or my Lowe Alpine breathable waterproof jacket.

At the top is the Maxpedition Proteus in which I carry the kit. Attached to the webbing of the Proteus by split ring are a Traser Glowring (Tritium light source) in green and a Photon II in red. Looped through the grab handle is a personal identification dogtag on a beaded metal neck chain. A small nylon webbing strap with Fastex buckle is looped through the webbing of the Proteus for attaching spare items.
Below that is my Personal Survival Kit (PSK) in an Altoids tin. It contains:
Swiss Army knife, micro torch, whistle,
BIC lighter, 50’ of 50lb kite line, 12” of 2mm tube
3 scalpel blades, 3 x 75mm nails, Brufen 4 x 400mg
P38 can opener, 4 Puritabs, 180 x 200 mm plastic bag
3 x 20p coins, pencil, writing paper, 2 safety pins,
2 paper clips, 2 Elastoplast, 2 antiseptic wipes,
1 colloid dressing, 1 elastic band, needle & thread,
3 No.8 fishhooks, micro safety pin, survival tips, ID
Attached to the tin using two bands (cut from cycle inner tube) are a Pocketwrench II and a Starflash signal mirror.
Next is a Fenix L1P LED torch & spare AA cell, a Silva compass, a Mini Maglite AA fitted with a NightIze LED conversion & clicky tailcap then a Surefire E2eHA.
Next row starts with a Gerber 800 multitool in its pouch, then a bag containing latex gloves and a mouth-to-mouth resuscitation aid. The yellow pad is a "Write-in-the-Rain" notebook with a Fisher Space Pen. The red tin contains a small first aid kit (FAK) mainly consisting of Elastoplast, rehydration crystals and pain killers. Rubber-banded to the FAK is an aluminium "Space Blanket." Next is a Spyderco UK Penknife (for when I feel law-abiding!), a muesli bar, a Garmin GPS 12 then a knife pouch containing a waterproof matchcase & compass; also a Swedish Firesteel & striker.
Next row: ancient moby with whistle attached, lifeboat matches, wallet (empty...), photocopied map of my area in a 2" x 2" ziplock bag, piece of bicycle inner tube, duct tape and a 400ml Sigg bottle.
Next row: Bic biro, Res-Q-Me tool & karabiner, two spare cells for my car remote locking fob, three-lens pocket magnifier, micro-PSK in O/ZON mint tin:
O/ZON mint tin PSK contents:

2 x 400 mg Ibuprofen, 20 feet of
50lb. kite line, pencil, 2” x 2” *bag,
ID & medical info.
25' of paracord, Leica 8 x 20 binoculars in Lowepro waterproof case with ID dogtag & Traser Glowring attached.
Bottom: Zeiss MiniQuick 5 x 20 monocular in Benchmade knife pouch, keys in teddy bear case (awww!), zip ties & cord secured with rubber bands, Arc AAA torch & paracord fob, safety pin & 2 split rings, 500kg karabiner, Petzl Tikka Plus LED head torch with another tritium Glowring.
Today's EDC knife was an Al Mar SERE 2000.
Wow! How do I carry all that?
