Does anyone have any experience with Hi-point firearms? We have plenty of quality guns, *and I'm looking for a gun to stuff in my tool box as an extra gun. *I've heard several reviews with varying opinions, I'm not sticking my colt 1911 or S&W 38 in my tool box to rattle around. *The Hi-point is cheap and supposed to be a decent shooter. *I'd like some feedback from anyone who has owned one.
Thanks

Jon,
Too late. Picked one up today. I figured for $180 with tax if, I hate it I'm not out much. Firstly it is definately not a Glock, colt kimber etc. and it is as ugly as mud. I took it out with some medium load reloads (200 gr FMJ with 5.5 gr of 700x) It's heavy but feels pretty balanced. The first 50 rounds or so it wasn't very accuarate but by the time I go 200 rounds through it it had settled in quite a bit and it was getting 8 inch groups at 10 yards. I'm hoping it continues to improve as it breaks in. I didn't have a single jam or missfire with it, and the recoil is pretty light for a 45 ACP, largely due to the heavy slide.
As I work with it, I'll keep you updated as to my opinion. The only thing I have any real issue with is when the slide locks back you have to manually jack the slide back in order for it to move forward.
Would I recommend it to someone looking for a first self defense weapon, no way. As far as having a knock around gun that you don't mind marring the finish on the price is right so far. I intend to keep it in my truck tool box as an extra. I always have my Glock on me, but I'm not sticking my other guns in my tool box to bounce around, so for that purpose It may be suitable, we'll see.

I can tell you that the Hi Point 9mm carbine is a rough but very functional weapon. I ran one through a carbine class and the damned thing just kept going and going. It cut up my hands a bit -- it has a lot of rough edges -- but it worked very reliably.

Dude trust me on this, find a good gun store in your area, one that stocks better used guns and pick up a good 38/357 revolver. The woods are filled with S&W wheel guns that will give you years of service.Leave the Hi-Points to the mini-mart robbers and car-jackers.

I've shot a friends .45ACP Hi-Point that was jamming like mad for him. It didn't jam for me, but it was the slowest cycling slide I've ever seen. Recoil was almost nonexistant.
I'd never carry one, but I'd leave one in the trunk of my car or something, just as a last ditch type of thing.

I've got plenty of quality guns, I was looking for a beater to stick in the tool box of my truck. Re: First post. My EDC is a Glock 17, but wanted something that if it got beat up, I didn't care, as long as it worked and was fairly accurate. I reload my own ammo so I kinow they're quality loads. So far I've ran only 500 rounds through it and it hasn't jammed yet. Like I said before it isn't close to the highest quality, and I wouldn't recommend it as a primary carry weapon, but so far it's performed well for it's intended purpose. I can't imagine it's good for more than 3-4 thousand rounds though.

I'd look for a m10 smith, bunches to be had @ 200 bucks.

I have a Hi-Point 9mm as a truck gun that I bought new ($98 before tax) at a Gun Show, after the first 250 rounds I have had no problems with it, shooting either Win 9mm or CCI Blazers. I had a problem with the mag., called them, shipped it back, got a new one..

I've pretty much grown to hate my Hi-Point 45 ACP. it hasn't managed to come into a decent pattern after 2000 rounds. I've stuck it in the truck box where I intended for it to be anyway and would rather shoot my Colt 1911 Govt. model any day. It's a piece of crap but like I said eariler, I'm not out much.
