Well with enough stars you can survive the horde of Ninjas attacking you... It is a remonte possibility but still it might happen...

Ninja weapons and butterfly knives and heavy metal spiked weapons were HUGE in the 1980s and considering that I was 16-20 when I EDC the items in the pics I would say I was way ahead on the EDC scale :lol*
A nickle S&W escort 22lr was my first EDC pistol and I was 16yo and I had some type of knife or weapon on me since age 7 .I never had any problems connected with the carry of weapons though it was* ILLEGAL for under 21 to even own a pistol.I had a couple friend that EDC pistols also and knew a lot of people my age that EDC knives, ninchucks, etc TO SCHOOL and their were very little problems ....wow did the world change.
Cool items. Also, remember, Ronald Reagan was president then.
Good years.

Todd, Do you remember when you could buy them out of the martial arts magazines? I don't know if you still can in other states, but in California you haven't been able to do that in years. Kind of makes me feel old! ;D

I remember that you could buy all those ninja weapons on the back of magazines. Everything was legal.

Chucks and ninja stars are the classics. But I still remember the samurai swords, switchblades and other crazy bladed weapons that you could buy.

I can remember as a kid flipping through the pages of the magazines and wanting everything they had for sale. It must have been the start of my EDC addiction. Back in those days kids could buy stuff through the mail without a problem. Can you imagine a kid today getting a throwing star in the mail! :lolhammer:

...or just making one out of mild steel in metal shop? When I was in high school a few of my friends in shop would make crude weapons of that sort from time to time. They got in trouble less often than the kids who took wood shop so they could make pipes...for tobacco, of course!* ::)
I have an old Blackbelt mag from the early 80's that's got all that fun stuff on the back pages. The old Edge Co. catalogs also featured such items, as did Smokey Mountain and the infamous United Cutlery.
I find it SO comforting that we have laws against the purchase, shipment, and carry of certain items that can be so easily fabricated.* :green:
Nunchaku and tonfa (constructed primarily of shafts of wood, and therefore not at ALL easy to manufacture with simple tools) were agricultural implements that became improvised peasant weapons in Japan, but here in the US of A they're deadly ninja equipment and/or police-issue gear! I wonder if Japan has laws against the sale, manufacture and possession of the classic "American Gothic" pitchfork? Now THERE's a weapon fit for a ninja!

I remember buying throwing stars at the mall in the 80's, they had lots of other cool ninja gear too. I always thought that was where the term 'mall ninja' came from.

To be honest, I always wanted to have a set of those "ninja cat claws," so I could scale high walls and scratch my enemies all to heck.
What about blowguns? I remember seeing advertisements for those things in just about every magazine a young fellow might happen to open.

Like making "iron knuckles" from band iron in school metal shop? Guilty! But, that was 40 years ago. :)

In 1985 I bought some throwing stars at a mall in Spokane, got busted at the Canadian border and had to throw them in the trash - I just know the Border guards went back and retrieved them and had a grnd old time whipping them at targets.
In 1989 I bought a dozen brass and aluminum knuckles for about $6 each out of SWAT magazine. They arrived no problem on a Sunday! Unreal!
Switchblade kits were big then too!

Can't forget the Rambo knives too!
Gil Hibben fantasy knives were also big at that time - at least to me and my friends!

Sounds like you need a Mall Ninja Master to assist you in the learning of these techniques, as they are able to wear the special ninja shoes.

Great pics! Brings me back to flipping through old Black Belt magazine and the SMKW catalog. They had a profound impact on starting my EDC addiction. For me you need a picture of a wrist rocket, nunchucks and a butterfly knife. Those were fun days.

That's funny... Reading these posts reminds me that I came from a small town with a small "Army-Navy" store. We were just kids (12-14), the owner knew us and would sell us anything (stars, chucks, machetes, knives, etc...). He always warned us at the counter "keep this stuff in the bag untill your out of town" Kept the police from bothering us... ;)
Hard to believe those are such different times, and we're only talking about the 80's here...
