okay I may be dumb here but can you tell me what each of those tools are used for? I love how tiny they are. Thanks.

Doug, you're getting quite the collection! I don't think that's even all of it though. :D
Denise, there's a variety of little cutting tools, bottle openers, pry tools and keychain screwdrivers. Most are made of stainless knife steel but there are a few titanium ones in there too. All of them were custom made. Doug really likes little tools so many are even smaller than what I normally make. It's fun trying to see how much function you can pack into only a couple of inches.... :)

I like the little knife on top left, would go great in a little credit card size sheath for a wallet.

The one on the top left is called a Skeeter and it is made out of damasteel. Sweet little blade!!!

I just wrote to Mr. Atwood about getting one of those Skeeters, once I saw how small it was I had to get one. :) I also was going to order a basic Pry Baby to keep with my Camping bag/BOB, but I wasn't sure how well it will spark a ferro-rod. I like the design of the second and third one down on the right side, they would be perfect for that. (Though I think those particular ones are Ti, right?)

The second one down is titanium and I believe the third one is 3V. Thanks for looking

This one looks very nice, I don't really need another bottleopener(like on the Prybaby), but a easy access blade would be handy for opening cardboard boxes etc.

I saw that one Denise, but I didn't realise at first that it was the same as the one I liked, just with the whole blade instead of the "prybar-tip"
On another note, and I know it's a bit OT in this thread, Peter should look into making a "survival shoehorn"
Something that you can hang by the shoerack, for wanted and unwanted guests alike...
It shouldn't stand out too much(obviously), include a prybar function and a good grip so that it could be used as a baton if needed. And it should of course function as a shoehorn ;)

This question may belong in the dealer section, but... is there a reason none of these tools have rulers? Is it too hard to mark them up precisely?
paul810
04-09-2006, 04:56 PM
Most of them are only a bit over an inch long, I don't know what you would measure with such a short ruler? ???
Brangdon
04-09-2006, 05:47 PM
My PryBaby has a straight edge which is 2.5 inches long. I am thinking of asking for a Keyton that's 3.5" long, which I imagine could have an 8cm edge. Pry bars have to be fairly long to give leverage.
I'd use it to measure all my other keyring toys :D Another application would be map-reading. In the UK we have OS maps which are marked with a 1km grid, and GPS units that use the same grid. Popular walkers maps are scaled so that the grid squares are 4cm across. If you can measure precisely you can fix your location to within a 5 meters, or about the accuracy of the GPS.
Peter Atwood
04-09-2006, 09:00 PM
You know, I'd like to do a ruler edge on a tool but it is just not practical for me. Not only is it hard to get it right unless you use industrial processes but it would not be cost effective to produce.

I see some of these little boogers or key tools have sharpened edges. Am I missing something here: if they are on a keyring and have the sharp edges aren't they risk to constant accidental self-mutilation???

:idiot2: -- I should have figured! Thanks, Closer.
I'm interested in buying for my keychain the Booger that is basically a mini prybaby minus the bottle opener -- from the pics above it looks like that has a small sharpened edge too. Could I see the kydex sheath for it in order to get an idea of size with it on please?
Cheers,

Well, I just gave in and have ordered a regular prybaby today :)
This could be a new addiction for me since I will definitely also get a mini prybaby for my keyring when they become available! I like the idea of these EDC tools and i like the fact that there is a philosophy behind them too: Peter Atwood's site really comes across as reflecting that.
Can't wait til I get my regular one now though. I'll post and share my impressions when it arrives.

Well, I just did it. I placed an order for two prybabies! I placed the order at 9:19 a.m. and by 9:57 a.m. Peter sent me a thank you and said my order would ship today. That sure is speedy service. I'd just like to say thanks to Peter for the promptness and professionalism that is seldom found nowadays. I'm sure I won't be dissappointed with my purchase. I'll probably spend much more money on his keychain tools in the future. Great job! O0

After some days reading this forum, and exchanging one email with Mr. Atwood, I placed an order for a PrybabyXL. This was four days ago, and I live in Portugal. The package came today, and it is everything I expected, and more. The piece has the perfect balance of solidity and portability, the design and execution are flawless, the service and shipping were excelent. I was actually undercharged for the shipping...
Conclusion: I'll be placing my next order soon. So many to choose from...
One more happy costumer, Mr. Atwood!

What is the size difference between the mini and fullsized? How much of a leverage difference in practice as well?
Trying to decide on full sized or mini.

I fiddled with the cord on my Prybaby, and now I cannot replicate the original knot. Can anybody help me on this trivia? :-\
Peter Atwood
04-22-2006, 04:38 PM
Croc, just Google "Two Strand Matthew Walker Knot" or look it up in Ashley's Book of Knots.
Jon, the Minis will be 80% of original size. There will of course be slightly less leverage available with the Minis but they still open bottles like a champ and maybe have even a little better fit than the regular ones. For a lot of tasks I find it doesn't really take much though to make something move. So for clearing a stuck casing in a firearm or opening a paint can I think it will still perform well. My advice is to take the old CPF attitude and just buy both! :D :P
