Wow! I am feeling like the bum in the alley. I wear a Timex Expedition. I am hard on watches, and have trouble justifying the money for an expensive one. As long as it keep fairly accurate time, and I can read it at night, I am ok. I have thought about the tritium watches, but after reading the review here about movements, I have some more studying to do.

I love the way that looks. I couldn't decide how the hands on that U1 would work in real life, or whether it was too big. But if looks fantastic in your picture.

I have a couple of EZM1s but I really hope to buy more Sinns or Damaskos at some point. I admire their design philosophy in a world of pointless bling.

Sunnie, I agree with you completely. In my opinion Sinn makes some of the nicest designs out there. I love the 656 and 657 probably the most of all but wish they made them in a 44mm size. Yesterday I swtiched out the gray shark strap for a black one and it looks great too....BTW, I have a 7 inch wrist and I think the watch fits me very well for its size.

Doug, love those UXs also! Maybe we'll have to swap for a week... :)

Paul, buddy of mine has a Tissot T Touch and it is indeed quite the watch. I thought the compass and altimeter functions were really neat.

Sunnie
04-07-2006, 07:37 PM
Well I wish I could carry off a watch that size. Sadly, I don't think it would work on my puny (by comparison) wrists :(

I was looking at the Breitling Super Avenger today, and it is absolutely an incredible tool watch with a really great dial. I wish I could wear it but it would really not work on me.

42mm is about my max I've found.

Thanks, Peter and sunnie. I love both the watch and the folder (RJ Martin Contender). Interestingly they both showed up in my mailbox on the same day a few weeks ago. :smitten: The Seiko I bought from a dealer on ebay who's in Singapore. He was the only guy I could find at the time who had the version with the carbon fiber face.

Peter - you better post pics of that Yao'd Seiko when you get it. He does amazing work from what I've seen. :coolsmiley:

Here's a pic of the watch on a black Zulu with stainless hardware. I switched from the NATO because it was 22mm and the watch lugs are 20mm. It just didn't fit right so I'm trying this now. :uglystupid2:

I learned recently on how to make decent photos. I still have a ways to go. Just set your camera on a tripod and make settings for close-up shots "macro or super-macro mode". Turn off your flash and make sure you have a lot of natural light or artificial lights that imitate natural light.
It's best to use a photo tent, but with a simple set-up, decent photos are still to me made with a few common items around the home.

Lately it's been vintage for me. Here's my new love, a 1940's Mido Multifort bumper style automatic. Great patina on this one, acrylic crystal, stainless case and radium paint on the hands and dial. It kind of half runs and desperately needs to be serviced and restored but I think it is fabulous. The smaller size of these old watches is very refreshing given today's fashion for oversize watches.

I do believe Todd that the Seiko you are wearing is what is called a Bullhead style, Citizen and Seiko both made them. But I am not sure, the case looks rounder in that pic than the Bullhead.

I changed back to the bracelet on my SKX011 today and am wearing that one.

I only use it when I'm canoeing, which doesn't happen nearly as often as I'd like.

I also love that watch, but didn't get it for one detail: I use my watch on the left wrist, and the crown for the calculator makes it hard to use with the right hand without covering the display. Citizen should have swapped the positions fo the crowns. Mechanically it would be easy to do.

Fine watch, nonetheless. Congrats on that.

A very basic St. Moritz SLK digital. Nice slim (I'm done with large, black lumps of plastic for now), tough titanium case, plenty water resistant and a nice readable display. Got it with a Kevlar band which has been plenty tough except that it's backed by a thin band of leather which is progressively rotting away from frequent daily soaking (and drying). I'll probably replace it with a Maratac band at some point.

I LOVE it. It's dressy enough to carry while wearing a suit, yet NASTY looking enough to go with BDUs. I prefer the blade finish to the other knives in the vision line (I also have a mini xray vision, and an xray vision). The matt finish on the mini xray vision seems to attract rust spots if I edc it in jeans for any length of time. No such problems with the Ti version, as the blade has a polished finish.

I love the military dials and many times wear my black dial Oris BC3, but being a woman with small wrists, I many times want something a little more dressy but still cool at the same time. This is my favorite. It is a d.freemont sapphire power reserve. It has a GMT also and is an automatic. You wouldn't believe the struggle I have in finding cases at 34mm or just under! This one is 33mm and fits perfectly. If I had a larger wrist, I could take the 36mm standard models. It just makes the seaches more challenging!

I guess I can just drool over everyone else's cool watches! All the woman's high end watches have the diamond bezels and are too ornate and expensive. Sometimes it's hard being a woman in the watch world! :idiot2:

You can try a trick my friend uses on the big watches. He pops off one band or replaces both entirely and makes them strap watches that hang from a belt loop or off his bag. The larger faced watches work great for that.

because they had the best shipping price. You can also purchase them here: http://www.countycomm.com
but they want too much for shipping IMO. I have looked around all over the web and
I haven't found any place that sells these for less than $16.00. That seems to be the only price
out there. Also FYI, they come in different widths, to suit your watch. Mine is a 22mm wide band. So
measure your watch lug width to find your size.

Hope this all helps and sorry all for the OT posting, just helping out.

Thats a good looking watch, I may have to get one.

Is that the 7T62 or the SNA225

pawheel -

Yes, I do like the form and function of this watch... It's a Seiko SNA225P... I'm not too sure what the difference between it
and the 7T62 is, as they look identical... I purchased this watch on eBay, just checked and there are many to be had for around
$150 - $170. I recently came across this link: http://www.pmwf.com/cgi-bin/Forum/webbbs_config.cgi?noframes;read=1040617
I've been in touch with both the owner of the watch and the guy who beadblasts the cases and I will get this done... it gives a fine
look to a good looking watch IMO...

I ordered the SNA225P last night after posting the first reply. Do you have the email address of the beadblast fella?

Here's the web site of the guy that does the beadblasting, there is an
e-mail link on there:
http://mysite.verizon.net/dmendonc/northeastwatchworks/index.html

His name is Duarte. He's on vacation until the end of this month, so you might want to
e-mail him then. Looks like he does real fine work and seems to be very highly regarded
at Poor Man's Watch Forum* http://www.pmwf.com/cgi-bin/Forum/webbbs_config.cgi

Enjoy your new Seiko...

The Casio is a Pro Trek Tough Solar PRC 60T. Great watch for travelling and everyday wear. Very very tough and lots of geek factor. Titanium, Solar powered, Waterproof, Barometer, Compass, Thermometer, Altimeter, Analog, Digital. auto/manual light if you want it, or analog dial glows if you don't.

I always have to ask someone else! None of my watches have a date, but that's typical of military issue. I like the clean look of a dateless, nameless dial.

Can't stand day functions. Even I usually know what day it is!

I, too, don't know if I could get by without a date function. Though, I do agree, I like the clean look of dateless watches. Every time I get a watch, I find myself torn between getting a watch that has a very clean, sleek look, or getting one that has a number of the function s I know I'll want. Few watch manufacturers have figured out how to give me both without compromising; it's usually a choice between form or function in a watch.

Nice going... that's a damn good looking watch... did you have Duarte blast it with aluminum oxide?
Also what was his turn around time? I've been in contact with him about blasting my Seiko but haven't
bundled mine off to him yet. Now if I can find a dial face for that watch that doesn't have those chrome accents,
I'll be set. Thanks for the photos... Enjoy!

Rob, I told him to make it as dull as possible, so i'm not sure if he used the oxide blast. Turn around time was one week from when it left my door. $40.

Let me know if you find a dial, I may be interested.

Timex Expedition. Very light, no cold metal, waterproof, night mode and compass!

The compass WORKS shocking, I know, but it's been consistently within a couple degrees of marine compasses, as well as those I use for hiking. Please note though that it is very sensitive to it's enviornment - that is to say that it is very easily influenced by any nearby ferrous objects....

Fossil, titanium, automatic, from their blue series, the movement is by Miyota 21 jewels. It took a few days to get used to the extra weight, and a couple of years to stop running the extra width into things, but we are as one now. One major complaint is that they made the pins holding the clasp to the band out of hollow ti and both had to be replaced, also couldn't be done by manufacterer so I took it to a jewler and spent like twenty bucks. I can't envision this getting replaced anytime soon

One of my favourite photos - I took this myself. Yes, that was the time, in the morning. It's a long exposure to get the blue tritium tubes to expose correctly, and then a flash at the end, to ensure that the ticking seconds lag behind the correctly exposed second hand.

Pulsar Solar Titanium (dark finish), $100 in 1997. Keeps perfect time, 9.5 years on its original battery and still going strong. Picked up a lot of scratches over the years and most of the gold trim plating is worn away, but I prefer it this way. Gives it character and doesn't make me look like I'm a watch addict who buys a new one every other year.
